What's up everyone, just trying to get the honest truth about these promotion jobs. Originally from Fresno so I'm not exactly sure how the whole Vegas promotions go so I'm just coming here for help.
I decided it might be cool to get a promotions job on the strip, so I've been checking them out and getting a few interviews. But on so many my bullshit meter just keeps going off. Some of the stuff I do understand is though even though i'm pretty smart, attractive, and good at talking with people and attractive women, I have absolutely no chance of starting off as anything but a lowly promoter, right? I check cl for jobs and many say they're hiring for all positions no nightclub experience neccessary yet when I get there they just push me straight toward the lowest job.
One ad (like so many) talked about making a 1000 a week and that I can walk groups in, and when i got there he said I can't park in their garage, or even be on the premises of the same club im supposed to be promoting or i will be fired. I have to kinda sneak into other hotels and get THEIR customers. Another job had a group of us come out basically just to tell us to go BACK home and fill out an online application which was a huge waste of gas money. Also I hear alot of tourists don't even like to deal with promoters because they hold no real power.
Basically I just want to know what can I expect as someone new to WORKING in nightlife but not new to nightlife. Whats the highest job i can get while also being realistic, and what is an average day in that job REALLY like? Is being a host right off just totally out of the question? What are some good companies or clubs to work for? So many of these jobs have such great ads (or at least the ones i've been finding) but when you get there and they tell you what you'll really be doing, its almost nothing like the ad, and makes me wonder why they didn't include it in the ad in the first place. But i guess if it were upfront, nobody would show up to be suckered into the job in the first place? Can some vets just help me out please? thanks
