DC nightlife blows(?)

Staying at thomas circle for a wedding. tried to find cool patios to smoke and overpay for martinis, or just a patio with a cool vibe where we can smoke and drink.

itrawebs and friends of friends said marvin, so we figured hit marvin and local 16. marvin's patio was a fucking joke. might be nice on a tuesday at sunset, but way too small to handle summer weekends (uh, patio season). local 16 smelled like a high school wrestling room at the top of the stairs so we didn't even bother (doorman was nice enough to refund the $20 i slipped him to skip the modest line, a true rarity).

Any DC JCers got a suggestion for tonite? was gonna hit the 930 for a bob mould dj act, but i'd really like to sit on a patio and enjoy the views with a smoke, and i'll drive or pay out the ass to park.

ANYPLACE from gritty funk, mega club, touristy chain, i don't care at all, just point me towards a great spot where we can smoke, please.

Hey Rick ! Sorry I just saw this thread, but I asked my friend Laura from DC and this is what she had to say:

Hey! Here are some places he should def check out...Ozio, Eden, POV and these are all rooftops/outdoors...if he just wants something relaxing like an outdoor area where there's bars he can always check out the shirlington area, waterfront area, but He might like Lima which is like a lounge/club and has an outdoor patio, once he's there he can easily find 3 other clubs around which are Josephine, tatoo, kstreet, lotus, current, midtown....other then that there's more lounges around georgetown area but u just have to know wheeee to go. The only thing is that in DC from Monday-weds most clubs allow 18 year olds go so its not that that nice but I can honestly say the DC clubs get better starting Thursday's....and Sunday's are pretty good too because there's a bunch of pool/boat parties going on everywhere! So tell him to check out Lima today...

Ozio is really nice on Saturday's it's a retractable rooftop and it's 21 and up so no kids, the ladies are gorgeous as well and it's house music. it also has a downstairs which you can drink and smoke they have a pretty legit cigar shop, on Thursday they have a acoustic night and they also have good martinis and a bigger cigar selection. Pretty classy and chilled on Thursday's.

Current, midtown, Eden and others are right Down the street from OZios on M street; also camelot (stripclub) and they are lounges so good music, beautiful people and a good time for sure. Don't do midtown on Thursday's though it kinda lame. Friday and Saturday's is pretty nice.

Lima is a good spot specially Thursday's, good House DJ's come to Lima on Thursday's and it does have a patio which you can lounge and just enjoy Dc Nightlife. It's on K street. Just don't do Lima on Tuesday's because it's 18 an up so a lot of young people go. Thursday through Saturday it's pretty nice. You have Park. Lotus. Tattoo. Josephines, K street lounge, on that same strip. there are lounges and bars allllll through out DC. At night but the main streets for nightlife are I street, M street, K street, F street, Geortown and Adams Morgan.

Thanks for the tips Royale. My 8 yr old mac finally died on this trip so i've been offline for a few days.

Rolled up on ozio, but had seen enough of the lines for sub-standard clubs so we passed. If we'd of had a larger group we would've gotten a table, but i might feel worse given the (IMHO) lame scene around town.

Until I see reports of great nights had on the town in The District I will stand by my statement that indeed, dc nightlife blows.
