What about the Excaliber room?

I've only played there once. It reminded me a lot of the off-strip local casinos like Sam's Town. Lots of old guys. They aren't particularly good players, in that they are way too weak and passive, but they don't spew chips either.

I honestly havent played a live game since last year at the MGM but usually do pretty well. If I come out even or $100 or $200 up Im happy and normally walk away after playing a bit. My last time in Vegas I broke near even if not a little down, and definitely lost my ass the year before, part of it was my fault, but the other part was there was a lot of sharks at the Rio (It didnt help I was very drunk most of this trip...ha). I used to play live 4/8 LHE at a local Indian Casino and would get free rooms there I played enough, however on the $4/8 LHE at the Indian Casino and in the KC River Boats everyone turned into calling stations and I didnt have the patience for it. Even with a good hand you'd get sucked out. Just no live legal games close by.

Be patient and eventually you'll learn to love all those callers.

It always makes me a bit nervous about cheating when the dealer and half the people at the table know each other. I should probably just get up but I was patient and took down a couple big pots when they thought I didnt know what I was doing. After that I couldnt get anyone to play with me.

I wouldn't worry too much about cheating and sharks at the lower stakes tables. I wouldn't worry about cheating at all, and sharks aren't going to be attracted to 1/2, unless they aren't that good themselves. There is too much money to be had at the more difficult higher stakes.

Seems pretty hard to avoid the locals. No offense against you guys, but you seem to have a system worked out. Guess I just dont trust anyone.

Well, locals could mean two things. More commonly, locals refers to people who live in Las Vegas but are still relatively casual players. I actively avoid them simply because there are better games to be had, but I wouldn't completely avoid them, especially if you can find them in a 2/5 or higher game.

With the "pros", that is people who are strategically playing winning poker to make money, it really depends on your skill level. At a low level like 1/2, there are plenty of inexperienced bad players. I wouldn't mix it up too much with someone who may be trying to build a roll and is playing well below his skill level. Figuring that out at a 1/2 game might be difficult though, especially when there are really bad players are the table and you're only sitting with someone for a few hours. I'd just look for tables that are heavy in action and look to be filled with visitors.

I guess what I meant about that is that I had heard in a couple different places that a group of people can try to sit at one table (obviously they are slick when they do this and not all will end up seated at once, act like they know each other etc) and then they will all pretty much call anything all the way down to the river and split their winnings at the end of the night once they take the big stacks down. I specifically remember a couple locals in a couple Phoenix casinos I went to tell me this. However true it was, I dont know.

Like I said, Im super paranoid....HA.

I am a poker dealer and trust me there is no way you can cheat.

Do you deal in OKC or one of the state line casinos by KS?

Ive played in both. Played in OKC last year when I had to stay there a month for work.

Yeah Ive been there a time or two. Wonder if the owners are scared the business will die off once they build the casino near Mulvane/Wellington just S of Wichita.

They're coming along pretty nicely in regards to the construction progress last time I drove by.

Wish a couple years ago Wichita would have approved a casino for our downtown.

Aria is pretty nice. The daily tourney there has a lot of bad players typically and I think it's much easier to cash at that tourney than any others because you have the deeper stacks to be able to withstand a couple of suck-outs and don't have to worry about the blinds eating up your stack too quickly so you can afford to be patient. The cash games are a whole nother story. You typically want to only hit them before people are going out or when they have gotten back, otherwise there are a lot of local grinders there from the 11pm-3am hours.

Bellagio still, hands down!

Best and largest game selection if you're playing mid-high limits. Venetian has better hourly comps and nicer room layout however.

Low limit: No question, any strip casino will have great (loose) low limit games. Stay away from any room with only 1-2 tables, they will be filled with regulars. Keep to the larger rooms with tons of tables.
