They pre-authorise your card for a certain amount per night (often $150) and then put it back on at the end of your trip. It's easiest just to put it all on your credit card and then not worry about it. I think they pre-authorise your card for considerably more per night if you check in on a debit card, because they don't know how much they can get out of the account if you trash the place, or rack up huge porn bills.

At MGM, they hold $100 per night if checking in with a credit card and if checking in with a debit card they will charge the entire stay upon check-in. If the room is already paid for it's $100 per night hold for either one. Also, if the room is already paid for or a deposit has been made, they require you to present the same card that was used to make the reservation, in my experience sometimes they are strict with this and sometimes they aren't so you may want to have that card with you just in case. You don't have to use that card at check-in but you may have to show it.Last edited by ChiTownChik; 05-10-2011, 07:13 AM.
