Using a cell phone registered in England in Vegas

As the title says, when i tried to use my phone in america last year i had unbelievable problems with it such as the phone would not ring out or people would not get my texts. I only ask as it would be difficult to keep in touch with hosts without a phone.....one of the guys going suggested buying a throw away cell phone once we get out there??? Let me know what you think would be best....thanks people!!

Buy a Go-Phone easy and quick to use and probably your best option. If you have Google Voice you can do call forwarding to any phone including your cell phone. Other option is if you have a smart phone use Vonage or Skype to VOIP when you're in a wifi area.

Since most of the world uses only GSM (exceptions are North America, Korea and Japan), bring an old GSM phone and pick-up a SIM card from AT&T/Cingular or T-Mobile. I've used both. The rates are better with T-Mobile, but the service coverage has been better for me with AT&T/Cingular.

I did the opposite when I went to England. I learned my lesson the hard way when a month after coming home, my bill was 1742.00.
