Lax vs Lavo vs Surrender? Misc trip advice for a newbie.

I haven't been to Surrender, but do they not play any Top 40/Hip Hop? I love house music, but would prefer to hear a variety of music throughout the night.

Never been to Vegas during the week, but I'd always pick Lavo over LAX.

However, my opinion is based more on the fact that I'd rather be at a hot club with a great crowd and listen to whatever the DJ spins than base my club selection on what music I want to hear. If I'm drunk, it doesn't matter, as long as I can dance. If you really want to hear hip hop, and Jet isn't open, then LAX is probably your best bet. Or, if you want a variety but the ability to stay exclusively hip hop, I reiterate my point to go to Tao (opium room is hip hop) or Marquee (Boombox room is hip hop). Although, as I've never been during the week, I'm not 100% sure that those are open Wednesdays.

ahhahaha yeah ... i was asking for wenesdays, so aite LAvo it is then, i dont care what music they play, as long as its decent, the overall place and crowd is good though right? Also they have this thign called "old school wednesdays" What is that? Any idea?

It's good advice all the same. Honestly I'd rather go during the weekend, but this is the only time that we had available to go. I don't mind EDM, but I would prefer a mix rather than one or the other all night, since that would pretty much please everyone.

I see some folks are suggesting LAVO now? Can anyone explain the difference between a 'megaclub', nightclub, and intimate night club?

One thing to note about Surrender is its ridiculously small dance floor area. However, it does a have a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE outside area so if you are more into "lounging" and making your own "dance floor" outside, then Surrender is an excellent choice imo.

Surrender plays more EDM while LAX plays a little more hip hop/top 40

I've never been to Surrender but always hear great things. I want to check it out... for that reason I'd pick Surrender.

Had a good time and bottles on LAX on Saturday... more than year ago. I like the layout of the club.

Did Lavo one Sunday this year... was not blown away. I would try it again with a table... or if was just as easy to get in as it was in Feb.

That does sound pretty appealing, but I am a bit concerned on the music. I have no problem with EDM, but I am not sure if I could stand it the whole night, and I know my guests would like some variety as well.

My one concern about Surrender is it seems very spread out. Now if the place is packed, that's great, but if it is an off night and not too many show, that space can make it seem deserted, which I don't want. I'm in vegas, the whole 'crazy party fun time' atmosphere is important.

I completely agree. I'm going June 29th which is close to July 4th but I'm not sure it's close enough that the place would be packed. I'm not sure I want to risk it in case it does end up being an off night...

Clubs like XS, Tao, Tryst, Marquee, Surrender will almost never be "dead" during June~September months in my opinion.

Most of the time I go during the summer are during the non-holidays (or no other special shit going on) and it cracks everytime.

Also, I know EDM got HUGE this past year but last time I went to Vegas was in October and both Surrender/Tryst played a good mix of Top40/EDM like 70%/30%..now it might be like 30%/70%.

I completely agree. I'm going June 29th which is close to July 4th but I'm not sure it's close enough that the place would be packed. I'm not sure I want to risk it in case it does end up being an off night...

In my experience, the only time it has been less busy in the clubs was during the Rodeo/Marathon (early December) and Superbowl weekend.

I've literally now been to Las Vegas in every month of the year and I think it can be good anytime. If you're really concerned with clubs being off, check online as to what type of conventions are happening at that time.

Summer is always good if you're looking for packed clubs and I keep in mind what a local friend told me: that clubs swell up more on Saturdays than Fridays. Many people from the neighbouring states of California, Arizona and Utah come in on a Saturday morning and leave Sunday morning.

Personally as a guy, I prefer going during the week because I don't like the ridiculous line-ups and I feel that the service is better.

I have been to Surrender on a Wednesday and it's all techno from start to finish. I like a little bit of techno but techno all night is too much so unless you want to hear that all night then I don't recommend it for you. Also the official dance floor is small, the majority of the club was bottle service and people lounging by their respective tables. It is not a club here you wild out. I have never been to LAX or Lavo but I have read that LAX is a good time. A lot of the people on this board are more into what's the hottest club of the moment and what is trendy and cool rather than what is fun. So when someone says a club is past its prime, they mean it's no longer the "it club" but that doesn't mean it's not fun.

LAX......Lavo has old school Wednesdays now...this week Rob Base is performing/hosting....next week is Doug E Fresh LAX is a good all around venue and the staff is really great....also they have an after hours venue attached to LAX called Savile Row, that is nice if you aren't ready to stop! Wed is industry night at both LAX and Lavo so you'll have a nice crowd at both, both have smaller dance floors, however LAX is 2 stories if you like to walk around and have diff viewpoints On Tues, Pure has been doing house music on the patio which has (in my opinion) one of the best views of the strip.....the main room will be playing the basic club music.
