The gratuity of 20% is forced on you. In some cases, I think it's bullsh*t as I've had really bad service from servers (the runners have been pretty good for the most part).

One nightclub management company charges the 20% upfront whether paying by CC or cash. Another company will charge it automatically if paying by CC, but not by cash. If by cash, it's at the patron's discretion.

Regardless, you're in North America. From what I was told, the wages are better in the UK/Australia/Japan, hence less of a need/culture for tipping. I know from what a friend told me is that because of tipping, valet and concierges can make upwards of 6 figure incomes in Las Vegas. I can only bet they're making minimum wage. How f*cked up/nice is that, eh?

But, like I said before, I think it's bad etiquette for the host to ask for a tip upfront. But, I'm not surprised because if he/she knows you're from UK/Australia/Japan, you'll likely not tip.

Last time I went to Tao, our server got me to sign the CC slip up front with 20% gratuity included, and proceeded to basically disappear for the rest of the night. She checked on us here and there, but she was basically useless. She didn't even come close to earning her 20%.

Universal, I could beat you out on that one, unfortunately.

On my first time organizing bottle service at Pure, I had a server named Nicole. That night was a cluster f*ck because we had two servers that night. I couldn't remember the name of the first girl because she said that it was going to be Nicole that would take over our table.

Almost everyone in the table (like 30 of us) had never done bottle service before, but her attitude basically ruined it (add to that, it was me and another paying the difference because so many people bailed out on paying - I've never let that happen again.)

Nicole was barely there, refused to answer questions from our table and definitely did not let us take pictures with her. Plain and simply, she was a fucking bitch. I'll say it - a fucking bitch.

I spoke to the host that brought us to the table and to our security. Short of demanding it, I requested that none of the gratuity go to Nicole. She deserved none of it. Completely useless.

Afterwards, I wrote to the manager at that time, Joe Lopez. Joe Lopez wrote back and apologized. He promised to make it up next time by providing a free table and bottle. When that time came, the free bottle was only if I bought a bottle (B1G1). Suffice to say, I've made sure I make note of our servers and security and make sure that the security is taken care of (because it seems to be that the runner is the hardest working guy there and next to that is security).

Like where the f*ck are the servers most of the time?!?!?!

Yea they would have to be paid fuck all for it to make any sense. I tip always, 20% would be on my high side a forced 10% would be cool by me. But a few hundred dollars as universal said to maybe give me a drink and fuck off. Well it's to much. But once again I don't know the full story so meh.

            Rickdick,

Simply put, if you wanna do bottle service at most places, you'll have to pay the 20% for gratuity. Add 8% state tax and sometimes, depending on the night and the celebrity/performer, a club will add the LET (Live Entertainment Tax).

If it's against your principle, I'd suggest just going to bars/lounges or not doing bottle service at all. Just go early to the club and you may be OK.

Solid advise, I will just pay though if thats what it cost cool. Glad I found this site though has helped alot so i could make that choice. And knowing atleast like you said that is just the way it is. Otherwise I know I would have been bitching about being robbed!

As Mikey T noted he is doing you a favour. By acknowledging you will give him the $500 tip you know your chances of getting bumped are slim to nil. He knows that tip is coming. Also, you got to realize that the dancefloor is a premium and limited table location only a few of them. The table min. given is very reasonable for the best location in the house. It's a give and take a lower bottle min for a better tip. Same principal applies to any table everywhere. Tables typically have a set bottle min. but you can often get a better location maintianing that lower bottle min by increasing the host tip

So there is usually a 20% gratuity to the servers and then 100 per bottle host tip on top?? Is that a fair normal?

We recommend 100 per bottle is more of a guideline, some people tip a lot more, some people tip a lot less. $100 is generally the min for bottle service. More or less depends on the type of location you want (better locations higher premium), how attentive your host was to your request, if he is walking you in personally, helped with lower bottle mins, etc and if you plan on going to vegas more often, building the foundation for future trips.

As for soliciting tips up front. It's been debated here for both sides... some think it's too much, other think it's straight up and honest to know ahead what it'll cost for what you want. Last thing you want is to get there and them be like yea that table you want is going cost you $1000 more or you can sit outside in the cold.

shooting yourself in the head is more like it.

As the people have recently chimed in - it may seem brash, rude or unprofessional to bring up the tip before anything's even gotten past the testing the waters stage but the host is telling you with the right tip you'll actually be saving cash.

I'd rather have someone be upfront than coy.

So with all this being said... do those independent host services work better at making sure you get what you want? I've seen them advertise that you get a contract amount ahead of time and you know your specific table with no bumping... I'm going to be in a group of 20-30... do it myself? Or get someone else to do it?

Do it yourself. The third party host services can absolutely NOT get you a better deal than dealing directly with the club.
