Is there a list of the big conventions that come to town?

When that many people come (for the big ones), does it change the vibe of Vegas?


Which ones make it better? Which ones make it worse?


Just wondering, since I have been before and found the whole town seemed to be jumping and also when the whole town just seemed flat, everywhere.

Do the big conventions play a role?

We used to have an annual trip to Vegas for random employees....then something didn't "stay in Vegas" lol.

I was pissed because I never got to go.

AVN convention ( porn show ) is always a good time its usually in January at the same time as CES ( consumer electronics show)

They have ASD ( general merchandise) twice a year I think In March and August. The MAGIC ( clothes) show runs at the same time .

Those are the ones I am usually in town for ....Im sure there are tons of others.

Any suggestions on a place for 2 or 3 people on saturday? I'm leaning towards XS but are there even tables for 3 people?

And probably another outing on monday .. not sure where yet!

There's a huge Jewelry convention, about 30,000 attendees, during the week I'm going this year - June 2nd thru 6th.

What you'll find during those conventions is that the rates for hotels RIGHT AROUND the host hotel will go way up and the hotel will probably sell out. The rest of the strip's prices may increase slightly, but nothing too bad.

I have four Vegas Conventions this year.

EMC World in May,
Cisco Live in July
VM World in August
Gartner Data Center Conference in December.

I'll be staying at the Encore for each!

I usually go for World Of Concrete (mostly old men). I've also been during AVN (that was fun and a fairly young and generous crowd), plus Magic at both times (couldn't see the difference there).

Super Bowl weekend seems popular too, but I couldn't see the difference in the clubs, but mostly in the lounges/bars/pubs and sports books.

March Madness seemed fun last weekend and it was a decent, but not insane crowd.

I think it depends on the clientele that that convention hosts. There's always going to be a convention it seems every day in Las Vegas.

"Con/Agg" convention is 140,000 people? last week

"National Association of Broadcasters" is 85,000 people in April.

I imagine the city is packed all week when these things are in? MGM capacity is 5,000 rooms or so... seems like all the hotels would see big occupancy rates.

I wonder if having 20,000 or so "Chicken Farmers" in town dampens things any?

You gotta look at the demographics for some of these conventions though. Construction Aggregate and World of Concrete (+/- 80,000) are massive circle jerk sausage fests.

I only know this because I end up almost always going to World of Concrete and all the taxi drivers love it because they get kickbacks for all the guys that go to the strip bars and it seems like everybody has expense accounts.

Thank goodness there's still enough women that come on those weekends to the clubs, otherwise Las Vegas would be a really sad city.
