It took me so long to write up my last trip report, I wasn't going to let that happen again.
Who: my buddy "Too Hotty" aka T.H. and I
What: see below
When: March 25-27, 2011
Where: Caesars Palace
Why: Construction Aggregate 2011 and a quick bender
Friday:
left for the airport, but had to park my buddy's truck at the border since the line-up was almost 2 hours! Damn cab ride from the border to the airport was 60.00. Luckily we made it to the airport with 20 minutes to spare.
Got in around 7 pm and headed to Caesar's. We were originally booked for a standard room, but Scotty didn't want to stay in the Centurion or Roman Tower. I almost never book my own hotel rooms since I'll go with people who gamble and collect player points.
Through a little coercion on T.H.'s part, we were able to upgrade to an Emperor Suite (think "Rain Man") for two nights with an option to stay in a standard room for Sunday for free (we were leaving Sunday evening).
I'd seen an Emperor Suite before, but never stayed in one. The room is massive (4 since it was just him & I staying there, but I wasn't gonna complain since I told him I didn't care where we stayed and my original share was 65.00. I also found out after it was the inspiration for the Hangover suite.
After checking in, we went to check in at Mirage. He'd gotten a deal to stay there, so he was able to offload the rooms on some friends of his.
After some food, he went off to play cards, while I walked to Carnival Court. On the way there, I walked by the Rockhouse. What is it with hip hop and IP? I have never seen cops hang outside a club scoping the crowd anywhere else on the strip but there.
As corny as some people say this place is, this is my favourite pre-party spot by far. I've gotten to know two of the bartenders really well and I find it fun to watch all the flair tricks and get wasted. A lot of the times, you'll meet older couples who just wanna have fun.
Around 12:30/1:00 am, I headed to Cosmo. I missed the soft opening by 3 days last time I was in Las Vegas and from what everybody seems to say about it, I had to check out Marquee. I don't even remember how I got up to the 2nd floor. I was on the guest list, but didn't know that guest list ended up at 11:00. I texted my connect. I waited for what felt like forever. I saw the general admission line, but when I tried lining up, one of the door hosts told me "no single guys"! Just my luck, I got a reply from my connect and he gave me a name to ask for at the door. Once I dropped the name, I walked right in.
Walked inside and met up with my connect at the bar beside the Boombox sign. Had a couple drinks and gave me a tour of the club.
I'm not really into house/electronic dance music, but it must've been a combo of the liquor and the vibe, but the main room had that aura of being in a European nightclub: a magic kind of aura.
The Boombox, while smaller and with fewer tables, had a really good layout for the bar to order drinks from.
I also checked out the Library, but I don't remember much of it. I'd almost planned on going to Artisan or Drai's for afterhours, but Marquee stays open late.
Saturday:
I woke up around noon with a massive hangover. I forgot to take a Tylenol and Gatorade before going to bed. Not a good idea.
Had a quick lunch at PF Chang's. Chatted with a table who gave a glowing review of Chateau. They'd been there on the Friday and said Flo Rida performed 6 songs. They also gave a thumbs up to Haze if you like r&b/hip hop~top 40.
After PF Changs, I headed to City Center. I'd never been to City Center and I needed to pick up some supplies at CVS.
First time to see the outside of Haze and I gotta say: it feels a little anti-climatic that the entrance is beside the (north) valet entrance. I also passed by the Eve Nightclub sign, but couldn't find the entrance. I would've liked to pass by Gold, but I couldn't find that either. Man, City Center is so fucking huge!
We had dinner at Mesa Grill. I'd never eaten at any of Bobby Flay's restaurants, but after seeing his show Throwdown With Bobby Flay, I had to check it out. While the food and service were phenomenal, I was expecting more of a spicy kick to some of the food especially since it is a Southwest themed restaurant (but, it could be me just being naive on what Southwest food really is).
T.H. booked a table at Tryst. I'd suggested to him to book through Ryan Perrings, but I couldn't get a hold of him. Weird thing is, he always uses the same host to book through: Ryan Craig, and they've never even met before! We had a group of 3 girls that were supposed to join us, but since he wasn't sure if they were going to buck up for bottle service, we got a 1 bottle table.
Pre-drank in the suite until about 10pm before heading to Tryst. But, I had to stop at Carnival Court to go and say hi to one of my favourite bartenders, Ati. It's gotten to the point when she sees me, she knows what drink to pour me before I even ask (double Gin & Tonic and a shot of whatever she chooses to make). By then we'd pounded a 1L at the room and had a double G&T w/ shot in less than 1 1/2 hour. I was beginning to feel it, but I didn't realize T.H. was on his way to blackout drunk.
We checked in at Tryst around 10:45. It started to really pick up around 11:30 (there was a lineup outside though). I was wondering where this group of 3 girls was, not knowing that T.H. had gone out there, talked to them and just walked back in! By the time the girls got inside, they were pissed. I guess he made them wait for about an hour. By that time, over 1/2 our bottle had been polished. I was trying to get 2 of the girls to stop being so pissy, so I took them dancing while my buddy was trying to sort out his "friend".
Once the bottle was done though, I told one of the girls I was leaving and she left with me. I told her I was going to Marquee and I thought she was gonna come, but when she bailed on the idea, I kicked her out of the cab. I kinda hope I was nice about it though?
I got to Marquee around 1:30. I couldn't remember if it was busier Friday or Saturday. Got in again, had a couple drinks at the bar in the main room before heading to the BoomBox Room where Eric DLux was playing.
I had to leave since I was getting hungry. I tried to get a piece of pizza at the pizza place with no name, but I knew I was going to be lining up longer than Marquee!
I think I got back to the room around 6.
Sunday:
I remembered to take Tylenol and Gatorade before going to bed. I was tired, but not in pain. We checked out of the room around noon, then headed to check into a Centurion tower room. It doesn't compare to the Emperor Suite, but it's still a nice enough room.
Unfortunately, our flight was at 7:45. I took a quick nap and headed out for a last round before heading home. Since Carnival Court is pretty much across the street from Caesar's Palace, it was a no brainer. One of my other favourite bartenders, Robyn, was also working. She's one of the best flair bartenders I've ever seen.
For the first time in a while, I was actually sad to go home. Normally, I feel like I'm dying when I head home. I had a good buzz both nights, got to check out Marquee on Friday and Saturday and finished the trip with a good buzz. I'm definitely looking forward to the next time.
