Got a press release from an innovative new Las Vegas company that caught my eye. Trying to decide if its the smartest thing ever or an absolutely terrible idea.

So, would you sign up for and use this service?

It's a little bit of both I think it costs way too much for an empty blue box that you have to fill yourself and then leave in storage.

Genius!! Only because I Actially thought of this idea the other week.

However I can't see it making money.

I’m trying to think of things that I would feel the need to leave behind. Yes I pay for a checked bag but it’s usually to put my shaving kit in as well as any blazers or jackets. I couldn’t see myself leaving clothes behind and it’s really not worth it paying for storage for a shaving kit. Just my opinion. I’m sure people could think of things to leave behind.

Do you mean as a consumer or an investor?

First off, the box is ugly. I could see some Ed Hardy monstrosity with gold scrolls, fancy bordering and stuff looking neat by your hotel room..... but that blue box?...

          it's very UN-Vegas.

For the average consumer, that is a pretty steep price. You are paying hundreds of dollars for someone to pick up your own stuff and store it in Vegas?

People aren't going to leave their clothes...sorry...that makes no sense.

so you are left with the misc stuff (booze, cleaning products, condoms?)

This isn't the kind of stuff that warrants a ton of extra space in your bag.

Also, are the hotels just going to let these servicemen waltz around as they please? They are cool with a big blue box just sitting in their hallways and messing up their sightlines?

I don't see that winning them over. Why let a third party do it when you could offer a similar service at a lower cost?

I drive to vegas, so this would not be something I would pay for.

Now, if the individual hotels offered a "booze locker" to store my alcohol, then that might be worth something

          But this?

I think they are reaching Jack

I was actually interested enough to check the price. The price is a bit too high for me.

It would save me time and money if I didn't have to bring a check in bag, but my bags are mostly filled with clothes and shoes, and I don't want to leave that in the box. Things like shampoo and deodorant, well I can just buy that in vegas every time, or of course bring them.

I was thinking more if you had to do a lot if business in the town rather than partying.

You could get a standard wash kit, laptop charger, phone charger and some work clothes.

Really can't see party people wanting to use it.

Interesting, I would think you can buy the travel size items they are talking about for alot cheaper then using the box. You are checking a bag anyway when you come to vegas (most people) and these items really dont take up that much space. Some people may have other items that they need to keep in there and then it might be worth it. I think its gonna be 50/50 but either way they are going to make money.

I'm now leaning towards its a cool idea that isn't practical for the majority of Las Vegas visitors in most circumstances.

I'm sure some people would find something like this useful for them, but you hit the nail on the head when you said most people aren't going to want to leave their clothes or anything of real importance behind in a box - much less pay $100 a year to store it.

I think if you were a very frequent visitor...like once/twice a month it could be practical. Of course, the people who have the money to hit Vegas a couple times a month probably would just hit the forum shops to buy whatever they need anyway and dont want to leave it behind.

Instead they need a call ahead Vegas box where you just tell them what to put in it and they deliver it to your room. It would be cool for us air travellers not too have to worry about checking bags for shampoo and tooth paste.

                    Example box:
                    Shampoo
                    Shower Gel
                    Shaving cream
                    Toothpaste
                    Spray on SPF 30
Bottle of Cabo Wabo Blanco Tequila
Bottle cheap vodka to mix with anything
                    2 2L Pepsi
                    1 lb bag Peanut M&Ms
                    Wintogreen Lifesavers

Just find the crap that people like me run to the nearest gift shop or CVS to get once we arrive. Throw in specialty items to purchase from some of the local shops. That way you dont have to have storage space for hundreds or thousands of blue boxes filled with lord knows what.

There...that's your AOD business idea of the day. Some AODer go make it happen and dont forget a 20% ownership stake for the idea guy

It's got potential - and probably the only city in the US where I could see this actually working. You can't pull the "Second Life" kit off in Knoxville, TN.

Then again, if you're there that often, why not just buy a Condo? There's a ton, right off the strip at places like MGM Signature that are only $155k - that's like $650ish a month, for a place you own, and never have to pay for a hotel room again.

Edit: Another potential downfall - - simplistic money laundering / storage / drug storage?

I think what I'd spring for, instead, is a service that keeps a list of the shit I want, that I can edit on a website, that will make all that shit appear in my "box" and show up at my room 10 minutes after check in.

Like a Netflix for Vegas gear. Top off the list while in the air, note the time for delivery needed. $50 for the guy that shows up with it all. Saves an assload of time running around town to get it all...

I'm with Mikey T on this one, if ur addicted to Vegas, go for it! Otherwise, who goes to Vegas THAT much that you would need a "second life" kit that stays there?? I love Vegas and go as much as I can, but I still have a real life where I work, go to school, and run a household and I travel to many places outside of Vegas. So for me, it's a HUGE waste of money to rent a space to keep things I can bring with me or buy in Vegas the 2-3 times a year that I go! #epcifail
