So I'm in Vegas a few weeks ago and had quite the random celebrity night...
I'm a huge fan of stand-up comedy and follow many big names as well as up-and-comers. One comedian I have never found funny is Carrot Top. Granted I have only seen him a little on TV but his prop act has never been my thing. However, in choosing a show for this latest trip I was researching online and kept seeing all these reviews about Carrot Top being hilarious and a "must see". After a while I decided I had to see things for myself and booked the tix. I ended up choosing seats in the 5th row as I'm a bit claustrophobic and this is where the aisle was - this turned out to be a great decision...
Just before the show started a group of "Rockers" came in all dressed in their typical leather rock star gear. I didn't pay much attention at the time but the group of them all sat down in the seats next to me.
Later in the show, a bottle of Crown Royal drops from the ceiling to Carrot Top and he announces he has some special people in the audience - Pantera and Hell Yea. He then walks up to our row and proceeds to pour each band member a shot. When he gets to the last of them he's standing right in front of me so naturally I say "I'm with them". He laughs and says "So you are" and pours me a shot. He then cheers my shot and salutes to Pantera and Hell Yea and we all do our shots together. I gotta say, if you would have told me earlier in the night that I would be doing a shot with Carrot Top and Vinnie Paul I would have said you were on some serious drugs!
Afterwards, my girlfriend and I went to check out Red Square - the Russian Bar at Mandalay Bay. We decided to get a few different types of their caviar as my girlfriend had never tried it before. The funny thing was, there was this loud group next to us at the bar and I don't know if that manager thought we were some high rollers for ordering all the caviar but he asked us if he could sit us somewhere quieter - we said we liked a good scene and we were fine. But minutes later one of the people from the loud group came up to us and apologized for their noise. We started talking and this Russian guy who appeared to be the ring leader came over and offered us some tequila shots. Real friendly guy who seemed to own the place. One of the girls from his group reached behind the bar and drank a swig of tequila right from one of the bottles. The bartender freaked out at this and the Russian just brushed it off saying he'd buy the whole bottle and then some. After talking with a few others in the group we come to find out this Russian guy is called "The Baron" as is a billionaire. Normally I'd call B.S but they were all adamant it was true.
Fast forward a bit and they ask us come with them to XS. It was Monday night and our plans were to go there anyway so we tell them we'll meet up later. Once inside XS we found one of the people from the group and they led us to the most prime table in the place - front and center, right off the dance floor with more bottles at one table than I've ever seen. "The Baron" comes over and acts like we're his long lost relatives - truly a nice guy. Of course, he immediately starts with handing out more shots of tequila - thank god I'm fond of them as refusing wasn't an option. I tell him my girlfriend has a specialty shot we want to buy him and we all went to the bar to have one. Well, The Baron thinks its the best shot ever and proceeds to buy several more rounds. He would not let me pay for anything and after I tried several times to do so he specifically told the bartender I wasn't allowed to pay a dime.
After several more shots of tequila the night got a bit hazier but it was a blast to say the least. The funniest thing was the next day my girlfriend hands me $200. I asked what that was for. She said the Baron insisted on giving it to her for introducing him to the shot and he wouldn't let her hand it back. Too funny.
I tried googling "The Baron" and billionaire but couldn't find anything.
Any of you party with this guy before? As I said, real nice guy - Russian, pretty tall.
I did see one thing that caught my eye while looking around online - turns out someone bought the $100,000 bottle of champagne at XS this year on New Years Day. The person remained anonymous and I just wonder if that was him. He seems like the kind of guy that would do that and remain anonymous.
So all in all, one of my more random fun nights. Too bad all the shots of tequila had to bring me back to reality the next day.
Last point - Carrot Top was hilarious. Yea, I know. I couldn't believe it either.
