Terrace Suite - MGM Grand

I am planning my Vegas wedding and MGM is a strong candidate right now. We are thinking about doing a dinner after then they offer in suite receptions. The Suite we are considering is the Terrace Suite. http://www.mgmgrand.com/hotel/terrace-suites.aspx

This works out because there is a minor in the party so a club or anything for the adults is kind of out of the equation.

Now my question is has anyone ever been there? I know the Skylofts are better but they don't offer receptions there and the balcony looks great. I tried Youtube and saw the room itself but I was just curious if anyone had been there? Is the room itself dated? Is the balcony worth it?

My buddy got married at MGM last summer and they actually did the ceremony out on the balcony/terrace at sunset. It was pretty awesome.

The room itself is dated, and there is not a lot of space on the main level of the actual room. However, the terrace is really big (and it has a hot tub), and there is plenty of space to hold your reception. You certainly aren't getting the room because of the furniture/tv's/etc. You are paying the extra money for the awesome view and the abundance of space out on the terrace. The weather should play a huge factor in your decision, as you will want to be outside on the balcony to really take advantage of what the terrace suite has to offer.

I agree with Vega$, I was in Vegas for the 25th wedding anniversary of my parent's friends and they also had their celebration in one of the terrace suites at the MGM and it was a great choice and the service from the hospitality team was awesome!

Thanks a lot for the heads up. I agree the Room itself isn't necessarily as important as the balcony.

I am concerned about music and alcohol a little. I know the hotel offers a bar but the cost is high, I'd love to BYOB but I am not sure how to pull off that much booze. As far as I music I'm not sure a DJ would be permitted or if they would even want to lug equipment up there. That I think will be my 2 biggest concerns.

Alcohol shouldn't be a problem. Either pack your luggage full of booze before you head out, or take an empty suitcase with you to the liquor store once you get to Vegas and then haul it up to the room. My buddy had 10-15 bottles of liquor on the counter w/ mixers and nobody from MGM said anything to him. Just don't flaunt the fact that you aren't using MGM to supply with you booze, and you will be fine. FYI, beer was a problem, as there was nowhere to keep it cold downtairs. The only bathtub is upstairs and you can't fit many beers in a sink.

The DJ is a different story, as that may raise some red flags with the MGM folks. I would bring an I-Pod dock with you and then just have one your buddies DJ the party. My buddy had the I-Pod jamming out on the terrace and it worked well. Shouldn't be that difficult, plus you will save money and get to pick all the music you want. Just my humble opinion.

Exactly. Make a long playlist w/all the music you want on an iPod and quality iPod speaker/dock and you won't have to worry about music. We also provided our own liquor and had no problems whatsoever. For beer, there is a Walmart not too far from MGM (driving), get a nice big cooler to keep it in and you should be fine.
