agreed NOT flat out rigged but ill bet my house on the fact that dana white gets word to the ref that if "the opportunity presents itself" for you to stop the fight so that so and so wins ill make more money on the next fight

The first time we've probably ever disagreed is now.Originally posted by nyc2vegas View Postagreed NOT flat out rigged but ill bet my house on the fact that dana white gets word to the ref that if "the opportunity presents itself" for you to stop the fight so that so and so wins ill make more money on the next fight
The UFC is not fixed. These guys train with everything they have for weeks/month at a time for these fights. Dana White has done a lot for the sport and is trying to keep it from going down the path boxing paved for combat sports (fixes, corruption).
Machida winning the LHW title (although much has changed with the "reinvention of karate" making media rounds) was the last thing they probably WANTED to happen. The next TUF was already planned with Rashad Evans and Quentin Jackson. That's just how it happens sometimes though.
This is coming from someone who trains MMA, and watches the hell that UFC (as well as other organizations) fighters go through. We have a few that have/do fight in the UFC in my gym, the KOTC 145lb champ, as well as guys fighting in many other organizations.
I will agree that Dana White is great at marketing fights and branding the UFC, and does whatever he can to further those goals, but he definitely keeps everything legit. There is too much at stake for him in a sport that had a bad stigma from day one.

I doubt Dana wanted Chuck to keep losing either. BUT regardless of how much anyone trains, or how much a fighter puts in to it, marketability is the most important aspect. There are plenty of fighters that are more deserving of the opportunities that Brock Lesnar has been given. But it just goes to show what the MAJORITY of the public wants to see, and its rarely worth $50 bucks to me.Blackout Artist

Im not up to speed on my UFC as I havent watched in a while, but I can tell you that the last one I watched (I forget who it was they were big names tho) and the 2 of them looked like they were square dancing. All I am saying is I think that the refs are advised that if the opportunity presents itself we want this outcome, I do not think the fighters are in anyway involved, I really think that some of them do fight their hearts out and train their asses off, and at times an underdog will score a big quick surprising knockout because of his hard training, but I think there are times and pretty often whereby the ref stops the fight awfully quick when one guy gets into a predictament.......look anyone in business who knows that if I can market these 2 guys im gonna make alot more money than these 2 guys, will manipulate the fights, albeit not obviously, but its what goes on in every sport....for instance steroids in baseball: everyone in the world in the late 90s knew that every baseball player was on steroids, including the commish and everyone else, BUT it was good for business so they turned a blind eye....then you have tim donaghey the NBA ref fixing shit.......im just suspect because of what ive seen. but the again I am more of a conspiracy theorist than the avg personit's that time again, let's get #28 gentleman....for the boss

That you are
The refs are not hired by the UFC. They are employed by that state's athletic commission. They ACs are usually very strict, ESPECIALLY with MMA. Keith Kizer of the NSAC and Armando Garcia of the CSAC (where most large events take place i.e. UFC, WEC, Strikeforce, Affliction) are really on top of it.
