Yea, $100 isn't gonna get you a free bottle at a top club on a weekend in Vegas. Nature of the beast, most of their compensation is from tips is my understanding.Originally posted by asg View PostI would hope a host is being paid well (or at least above min wage) by a club for giving them guaranteed business. Especially when that business is multiple bottles at 1000% markup. As I said, if they go above and beyond, sure, tip for service but I would never think about tipping anybody over $100 unless they got me a free bottle or something.Originally posted by MikeyTantalo View Postuhm.. why wouldnt you tip a host?Originally posted by asg View PostWhy would anybody tip a host? Don't they get paid by the club? That is, unless they are giving you some kind of wholesale rate/deal.
fine.. dont tip valet.. they get paid too..
Dont tip bellmen.. or servers.. or bartenders either..

It can happen if the other hosts are really tight with the first host, but more likely than not the 2nd guy is expecting a good tip too for treating you right cause he heard from the first guy you treated him right...Originally posted by BrainChild View Postand is that correct? so the second night i can get a table and all for $4k lets say and only tip 100 cause i tipped the first guy a lot already?Originally posted by Drew View Postif i'm reading correctly, he's suggesting 300 for the first host and $100 for each host after that instead of 300 each time.

T.I.P.S.
To Insure Perfect Service...
I will remember that...
That is terrible that people are so rude and cheap to boot.
Sucking away the equity that reputable people build up really ticks me off.
I would fully endorse some kind of VIP section on this site where hosts could keep a scorecard on everyone who is generous or flat out stiffs them.
I hope that when hosts like you meet a customer who treats them well, that they get moved into the "good inbox" of your blackberry, so you know we are reliable.

and the motto of this thread is....
treat EVERYONE the same.
Be good to host A and Host B and Host C.
If Host A is a class A azzhole, then don't use him EVER AGAIN and post your experience on this board.
Then you continue to give your business to HOST B and HOST C.
If you feel one is more deserving of your service than the other, then use that host.
Thus your list has has been wittled from 3 unknown hosts to 1 good host.
Now repeat with Hosts D-Z, and you will have a golden contact list.
There is no substitute for experience.

asg,Originally posted by asg View PostLOL. "Insure." Tips are earned, not expected. That's why you tip people after service, not before. If hosts aren't paid on commission, I don't know why every host isn't offering the exact same minimums/tables.
In Vegas money talks. If you want something you have to pay for it. You won't get a good table location just by coming up to a host and saying " Hi, How are you?". There are different minimums on table locations, there could be 1btl minimum table locations which can be far away from all the action in the club and there can be 5btl minimum locations that are on the dance floor. SO, if you want a good table location, you give the host a TIP because they are the ones who will be looking after you.

Doesn't sound like they're looking after me at all, sounds like they're looking after the club. Why am I not dealing with the club directly, again?Originally posted by Vadiksf415 View Postasg,Originally posted by asg View PostLOL. "Insure." Tips are earned, not expected. And no, I don't tip the maitre d at a restaurants either. And even if I did tip, $100/bottle? That's like 25-30%!Last edited by asg; 01-27-2011, 09:09 PM.

You are dealing with the club directly. The hosts work directly for the club. If you mean directly by using their online reservation system, then good luck!Originally posted by asg View PostDoesn't sound like they're looking after me at all, sounds like they're looking after the club.
