  • is this true about tipping

I post on bb.com forums just for laughs and what not. vegas threads come up all the time. and this guy claims to be a vegas pro and he has lived there and acts like he knows it all.

    he said this to me..

"Are you retarded? You pay the first host which enables you to maximize your first night at that club, then, unless of course you are an idiot, you are going to a different club the next night, a club which more than likely will be run by a different management group. Now you could go tip someone over there another $300 or rely on the pass-along that the first host will do for you and get by on only a $100 tip.

Do you have any idea how many people call up hosts and blah blah? MONEY TALKS. They don't care why you are coming to Vegas they just want to get paid. And if you are a smart visitor you understand and accept that before you set foot in town. Unless you want to spend your nights at shiit clubs or hotel bars.

Maybe you and OP just want to have some run of the mill time in Vegas, you know be some schmuck face in the huge crowd. Go for it. "

what i got from this is he is telling us to pay $300 to the first host on the first night and ask him to hook us up with contacts for the rest of the club nights. and that the original $300 will be enough tip for my whole weekend. cause according to this guy hosts share tips with hosts from different management groups.? is this true?

was i wrong for calling him an idiot?

we had arguments back and forth. he got really defensive that i questioned his expertise

hes prolly a host in town somewhere... or an indy.. if you have a host.. a good one.. he can set you up at every club.... take care of him for settin everything up.. take care of the host he sends u to a lil bit.. I can see that.. but putting a flat rate on it? not fair.. take care of the guy as much as u think he deserves.. if its $50.. or $5000 (it has been a tip before...) no matter what the host should appreciate it...

i must go see this forum now...

he posted more stuff. i could give the link............ http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=131046763

          he is saying..

lets say i goto vegas for 3 nights and plan to club all 3 nights.
he wants me to tip the first host on the first night $300. and then ask the guy to give contact and hook ups for the other 2 nights of clubbing. he is saying that the original $300 will be shared amongst the 3 hosts on the 3 different nights....even though the hosts could work for different management groups.

so if i get table service costing about $3-$4k each night that tipping each hosts $200-$300 is something only idiots and money waster do. according to the vegas expert

Why would anybody tip a host? Don't they get paid by the club? That is, unless they are giving you some kind of wholesale rate/deal.

Guy sounds like an azz and his words (as Mikey pointed out) about hearing all these stories makes him sound like some sort of host.

He is right about one thing though.

MONEY. It does talk. It screams. It sings.

This is a good board with some really savvy Vegas vets and I believe Colton makes a concentrated effort to provide us with trustworthy contacts for each club.

but all that aside, even when I mentioned the JC name, there was not a single host I didn't have to grease to get the proverbial foot in the door.

You text Host X about a table and they might text you back and you email Y host and they get back to you eventually......

but when I send a host a text saying I will pay them an extra $500 or something for the spot I really want...

All of the suddden I get a text saying to hang tight and then they magically phone me 10 minutes later to get me set-up.

because at the end of the day(or night in this case) it's a business.

                    Pure and simple.

if i'm reading correctly, he's suggesting 300 for the first host and $100 for each host after that instead of 300 each time.

I would hope a host is being paid well (or at least above min wage) by a club for giving them guaranteed business. Especially when that business is multiple bottles at 1000% markup. As I said, if they go above and beyond, sure, tip for service but I would never think about tipping anybody over $100 unless they got me a free bottle or something.
