I always wonder about when I get put on a guestlist if that automatically means no cover.... So far I don't think I've had to pay cover (knock on wood!)

If you are guestlist, you don't have to pay cover. And if you are coming with a group of girls, you will be walked in with no problems.

If a club offers front-of-the-line passes, like the wristbands at Tao for instance, would it ever make more sense to contact a host and set something up rather than pay Wantickets.com, the hotel, or whomever?

Definitely tip the host right off the bat at handshake and the chances of paying cover reduces significantly. After I walk my people in, as a good sign of gesture I like to walk back out and give another tip (more if cover was saved).
