This weekend was pretty sic out there in Sin City and this place never fails to amaze me.
This is two years in a row that we've been to Vegas on the weekend before Christmas. This year, we were able to add an extra day to the trip and recruit another couple to head out with us. Also able to meet up with another college buddy that I have not seen in years. Marriage can have a pretty nasty habit of doing that for whatever reason.
Day 1- Thursday- 12/16/10- Up @ 4:15am to get ready to be at Detroit Metro Airport by 6:30am for the 8:30am flight. We were fortunate enough to pawn the kids off on my parents for the weekend. This also meant a free ride to and from the airport which is nice thanks to my Dad. Anyways, super smooth flight with drinking $7 vodka tonics to start off on the right foot. Likely the cheapest well drinks to be had for the weekend.
Land and cab it to NY-NY. Cab line is short and we are able to check into our adjoining rooms immediately. We booked an upgraded Facebook deal with the park ave rooms with a strip view. I stayed at this hotel about 5 years ago in a base room and thought they were sizable for four guys. We get to our room that is crammed with two queen beds in it, the other had one king with more room. At this point, I am starting to miss the room we had at Rio last year which was super nice and spacious. But, this year, we wanted a hotel with some amenities which Rio was definitely lacking last year, plus the price was great too, not to mention being on the strip. No big deal, as its only used to sleep in anyways, right?. The iPod docking station was a nice touch and the desk had ample room for a small bar setup.
While waiting for the other couple to arrive, my wife and I hit up Gonzalez y Gonzalez in the hotel. Great burritos and tacos. We kick back with a few more drinks. Its 11:30am at this point.
Head out to the strip to pick up some items (M&M store for the kids) and made it to Planet Hollywood and crossed over to check out the Cosmopolitan. Wow is all I can say. The Chandelier Bar is amazing. The rest of the restaurants were somewhat opened and we found where Marquee is located at. Very nice all around. The casino was very busy.
With it being the Holidays, we head next door to Crystals to see how they decorated it. Very nice also. Walked through Louis Vutton which was empty minus 10 workers and security. Found a pretty cool piece of luggage for the gambler in there- roulette table on top with drawers for poker chips, cards, etc. No price tag obviously and it was enclosed in a glass case. I guess its one of those "if you have to ask how much it is, you probably can't afford it" type things.
We start to head back to NY-NY as the other couple finally landed from DTW at 1:30pm. Happy hour starts @ 2pm at Nine Fine Irishmen. Can't beat $5 pints of Guinness to get things moving. Utilize some free drink passes in here and move on to Pour 24 for a few more rounds. I have become a big fan of micro brews lately and this one doesn't disappoint either. After some more rounds here we run into some promoters for Coyote Ugly and RoK. Always skeptical talking to these guys, especially since RoK is rarely mentioned on these boards, but Coyote Ugly had a happy hour later which could be entertaining from a people watching perspective before heading out to Tryst at night. Girls have free entry, shots, guys reduced cover at RoK. I really doubt that I would even consider paying cover to get in this place as a guest but we'll see if we attempt to go in this club at some point during the weekend.
We proceed to grab some dinner at the America grill in NY-NY. Happy hour continues. I think at this point we are all well tuned up. After dinner, my buddy and I run down to CVS to pick up some vodka, mixers, 5-hour energy drinks, and Gatorade to keep in the room. I find it humorous that the CVS sells bottles of Dom and Crystal, that are way cheaper than anything available in bottle service in the clubs.
Head back to the room and gear up for Tryst. A few vodka tonics down and we head to Coyote Ugly as its only 8:30ish now. Grab some 2-1 vodka tonic wells as this is the drink of choice for the night now. Coyote Ugly had all walks of life in there. I thought we all had a pretty good buzz on but there were some completely train wrecked people in here all ready.
We then decide to leave as its after 9:30 now and head to the Wynn. Great looking hotel as it was our first time walking in here. Grab some nice photo ops in the lobby area and proceed to find Tryst. Find out they don't open till 10:30. No problem. The girls find an outdoor patio that over looks the waterfall at Tryst I think. My buddy and I decide to go find a bathroom and he vanishes to find some slots to play. I start wandering around the gaming floor and come across Blush. Perfect! They are open and have free cover. Go and grab the rest of the group. We get seated in the VIP section which was pretty cool. Bottle prices in the menu seemed slightly cheaper than what I've read about on the boards. The staff was super friendly, talked to a host for awhile and our insanely hot waitress. Cash out of here after two rounds of drinks and head over to Tryst. There was a small line but I flag a clipboard guy down and told him that Ryan Perrings from X/S put us on a guest list (after talking with Ryan about b.s. at X/S). He fills out a slip, off to the cashier and off we go. No cover! Excellent! Score one for home team tonight! This is about where the night starts to become a blur. Fortunately, digital cameras are great for restoring the night's events. According to my wife, we danced our asses off and left with a pretty sizable tab. The tables seemed filled up and the wives played around with the stripper poles for a bit too. Very cool club with some very good music. Glad that we came here for the first night. I recall a handful of times of going to buy a round of drinks and coming back to find the wives surrounded by a bunch of guys. No worries as its all good. No real a-holes in here tonight as everyone is having a good time. This is a major plus I find when going to Vegas as compared to other places like Chicago and Metro Detroit bars. I think we ended up leaving around 2am (yes, early I know). I had a full drink in hand and walked out with it. I didn't want to leave this behind
. Hop in a cab and I end up passing out and spilling the drink on my buddy's leg anyways. So much for savoring that drink. I end up in my room, passed out as the rest of the group stays downstairs to gamble a bit and get some late night food.
End of Day 1. To be continued...

Fortunately, (I think), this did not happen. We finished the last of the Goose as between the four us after my buddy split pretty quick after finishing their couple rounds of drinks (he proceeded to gamble and drink whiskey till 10am afterwards). Vanity seemed to start emptying out around 3-3:30am (I think). The two groups in our area were long gone by now. ***** Sweet came over to talk with us to see how the night turned out as did the waitress and runner. Great customer service! We head for the exit as the girls were exhausted from dancing and being on their feet all night with the heels and grab a cab back to NY-NY for some late night food and call it good. Solid experience all around!
