need input from doormen/bouncers - license with hole in it

i'll keep this quick: i went this morning to transfer an out of state license to a new california license because i just moved here. usually DL are printed on the spot but apparently not in california, where it will take 2-3 weeks by mail. for driving use, i have a piece of paper that acts as my license. i don't have a physical DL that i can use for ID.

when i completed my forms, the dmv agent punched a hole through my old license. my question is, will this be acceptable at the front of the line? the hole is punched only through the "20" part of "2013", my license expiration date. everything else - my picture, birthday, information, etc - is still clearly visible.

i also have a motorcycle permit that i keep on me. same information and design as the DL, only it has "class M" and "permit" on it. i was planning to show both and clarify the situation for whoever is checking my ID. will this fly? i've heard horror stories about losing passports so i'd rather not have to bring it with me, especially on a crazy holiday weekend like halloween (my next visit to vegas).

if you've run into this before or have any words of advice, please let me know. i understand that what one person says for one club's protocol may not be the same as another club, but as long as there's some sort of confirmation either way, i can make an educated decision from there.

over labor day weekend one of my friends used an expired license. her bday had been a few days before, and it expired that day, but DMV sent the new license to the wrong address and it got lost. she ended up using her expired license the entire time all over vegas and at the clubs with no problem. most doormen even wished her a happy birthday when they saw she had just had her's. as Cares mentioned, though, i'd use a passport if you had one. not sure how they'll feel about a license with a hole in it. in the end it's up to each doorman's discretion.

In my experience they're looking to see if you're 21, thats it.

You should have 2 forms of ID just incase you lose one anyway though.

Shouldn't be an issue, but I'd bring the motorcycle permit too (as long as it has your picture and is state issued).

this happens pretty regulary in clubs..

obviously bring your exprired id with hole in it and the paper from dmv..

iw ould also recommend another form of id just in case, you just never know..

rule of thumb is as long as the expired id falls between 1-90 days, it usually accepted..

but make sure you bring the dmv prinit out..

This summer I had a hole punched in my licence and a temporary paper permit to go with it until I got my new licence.

I went to Jet during that time and the security host who checks IDs immediately noticed the hole and asked to see the paper permit as well. Since they both matched exactly, it was not an issue.

As a Doorman.. I will tell you.. bring the punched one and the printed papers they gave you.. that is an extension to your license... you will be fine

If you do in fact have a passport, just use that and then you have no worries..

There is always "that guy" who checks id's that gives people a hard time.. Dont be the guy that gets picked on per say..

Just bring your passport or birth certificate. Cole had one with a hole in it for months and she just carried her passport too.
