so how early is to early to plan?

Came back from a guys weekend in Vegas at the end of august and decided i was going to take my wife for the First time in Feburary........I'm getting pumped up......for the first 3 weeks after we reserved are room i pretty much planned the whole trip but man it seems so far away.............so how early is to early to actually start setting plans in stone and start really getting a feel for dinner, spa reservations and contacting hosts. For the guys weekend we did bottle service all weekend but with just the wife she don't drink much so i figure maybe one night try to hook up with another couple for table servie and then hopefully try and get consideration for getting are name on a couple of guest lists for the other nights to give her the best First time in Vegas i can give her?

I think you can start planning as soon as you get back. It's the only thing that really deals with the Vegas withdraws lol. As far as actually booking things; this is my opinion:
start watching rooms and airfare all the time (like many of us do) so you know when the prices drop (you'll have a few months of history to draw from). I'd book the airfare as soon as you get a good rate. I'd wait until at least 90 days out to book the room (and watch twitter tuesdays and smartervegas and other sites, like this one). Bottle service and dinner can usually be booked about two weeks out. Hope this helps.

On the return flight from Vegas in February we planned most of our next trip for Feb 2011, between June & August we had booked our flights and hotel and we are currently putting the finishing touches to our itinerary for the week, and in January we are going to be contacting host for bottle service.
I don't think it is ever too early or late to plan a trip!

Vegas is alive, like a living being. Its constantly moving and changing and isn't always predictable. Don't plan too early because things are constantly changing. New hotels, clubs, hosts, hotspots, weather, etc.

Flights/hotels - OK

Everything else, I wouldn't plan too specifically until you're about a month, month and a half or so out. ( You can definitely set out a rough draft, but things can/will probably change )

nightlife and plans for the trip can be planned when the dates are close, because, like warren said, things are constantly changing in vegas.

Also, I don't like to book it until a few months beforehand. Seems like the prices dip around 2 months before.

I may have booked my room for the Mayvasion already ...but only because I got a smokin' deal.

What I've always done with rooms (before I found the HRH Twitter deals) was go ahead and book when I found a decent rate. Then keep checking. As long as you didn't book with some super special off the wall deal, if the rate drops, the hotel will honor it. Just call them as soon as you see it and let them know. When I did it, I thought I would have to cancel and re-book at the new rate, but the res agent said something to the effect of "Oh, no, you don't have to cancel, we'll just change your rate." Boom, done.

Agree with the flights and hotels. I booked around Labor Day to fly out of Detroit to LAS for the pre-Xmas trip this year. Watched flight prices for about 3 weeks (Tuesdays and Wednesday generally have the best deals). My flight prices had to dip below $300 so I could cash in my frequent flier miles through Delta for two free tickets. If you don't mind your Facebook or twitter pages being over run with promos throughout the week, its a good idea to locate the Hotels and such on both sites and become fans/like/or follow them. Also, it helps to sign up on each hotel's website to receive weekly deals. We watched a handful of hotel prices for two weeks and decided to book at NY-NY for what I thought was a steel, and two weeks later, a better deal came out (free room upgrade) and it was actually cheaper than the first one. Called NY-NY direct and the lady I talked to put my two rooms together along with the new discount code for the upgrade. It was funny that she actually tip-toed around the "sandwich trick" topic for an additional upgrade when we get there to get a strip view. I laughed and said that I am well aware of this. Great customer service!
