  • Short review of Gold Lounge

Last week I posted on here if anyone had an opinion of the Gold Lounge at Aria. Since I was staying there and had an in on the guest list, I figured it would be worth my while to check it out. A couple people replied but it seems that no one has been there in a while so I figured I'd put in my two cents.....

First my buddy and I went this Friday and got there just before 11pm. The door people were very courteous and helpful and got us in right away. There was a small crowd out front, maybe 8-10 people. The place was about 85% full and I was pleasantly surprised with the type of crowd I saw, not being sure what to expect. Its small to be sure, about the size of Caramel at the Bellagio, with a small dance area and one main bar with service on both sides of it. The crowd wasnt dressed in the absolute latest outfits, but it wasnt the convention crowd either. Not supermodel gorgeous, but they all seemed to have most of their teeth and were fairly attractive. The music was the standard top-40/house stuff you hear anywhere on the weekend, nothing special, but not bad. What worked for me and my friend (both of us well over 30) was that the crowd wasnt all 21-25. I would say it was 1/2 under 27, 1/4 27-35 and 1/4 35+. For those of you who care, the ethnic mix was commensurate with the breakout of all tourists, so it didnt skew toward any group more so than normal. I know some people care about those things. I think they were also offering some kind of "open bar special", where you can drink all you want of various well drinks for $20 until 1130. I didnt participate in that but it seemed like a nice option. It was surprisingly dark in there so you really didnt get a feel of whatever kind of decor they club was trying to convey.

By 1130 it was fully packed and by 1230 it was down to about 70%. We left at around 1am to go elsewhere with some new lady friends. ;-). I was told by one of the door people that they dropped the afterhours thing they used to do and do stay open to 4. When I pressed them, they said it was more of an "early club", where people start their evenings at before going elsewhere.

Basically, I liked what I saw and would highly recommend it for anyone staying at Aria or nearby, or as a first stop before hitting Haze or another venue. Its too small to spend an entire night there, unless youre not really into the big clubs, can get a table and maybe are a bit older than the average person in clubland.

    Hope that helps.
