  • Off-Strip in the Winter

    Hey,

I'm organizing a Vegas trip for a bachelor party in late February or early March and was trying to figure out where to stay. We're all in our 20s, so places like the Hard Rock and the Palms jumped to mind. I just wonder if they're still so great in the middle of the winter when their pools are closed.

What do you guys do during the day when you're in Vegas during the winter? Do you think it's more important to be on the Strip and near everything at that time of year? Thanks so much.

Basically gamble and drink. Sometimes nap.

Really I just spend more money though.

I don't think being on or off strip is any different during the winter. I prefer to be on the strip at all times. HRH was torture for me even if it was only one night...

Personally, I'd always stay on the strip because of their being more to see and do there. It's easy enough to get a cab to the HRH/Palms, but it's far enough that it'd wind up costing you a bit more if you're travelling to the strip every day from there. That said HRH is a much frequented favourite amongst forum members.

"The Strip" vs. "Off-Strip" as two separate locations is misleading.

For example - Aria and Planet Hollywood are actually closer to Hard Rock than they are to Palazzo, Wynn, or Encore.

Bellagio and Caesars are closer to Palms than they are to Mandalay Bay.

If we were strictly judging distance that would be true, but the fact is, that everything in between those two points is itself, part of the destination that is-The Strip.
That being said, if you're asking if it can be done, you're probably not at the level where you could pull it off.

You want to be at the club where girls want to be... not where guys get good bottle deals.

Las Vegas was good. Hell of a ship, hell of a crew.

Thanks guys. I think we're going to go with a Strip hotel then. We'll be on a bit of a budget, so being able to walk around and check different places out on the Strip during the day will be a plus.

On that note, any quick suggestions on a good "value" place on the Strip? Last time we stayed at the Flamingo, which was nice enough and centrally located. It was in the summer, though, and its pool area made up for some of its other shortcomings. We were hoping of doing something a bit nicer for the bachelor, but we were also hoping of swinging bottle service one night and there's only so much money to go around. Maybe the GO rooms in the Flamingo (not sure how much more they go for)?

From what I'm told, the majority of the rooms on the strip are acceptable if you're on a budget, and if you do the $20 trick the upgraded rooms are quite a bit nicer.

There are a few hotels on the strip that are actually really cheap. You just need to be able to find the deals, and winter usually means cheaper hotels. Check out www.smartervegas.com

MGM, Mirage, and TI usually have some pretty good deals.

I'm looking for a deal for March @ the Venetian but no voucher coupons seem to be around for that far ahead.

I'm pretty much in the same boat (though with a bunch of us in grad school, the Venetian probably isn't in our price range haha). Trying to plan a bachelor party for 8 guys for the first weekend in March, but it seems like it's too early to find deals, or even to start contacting club hosts.

Does anyone have any advice about when to start booking a March 2011 trip? Thanks!

Start booking 3months in advance. Contact club host 2wks before your trip.
