  • Cost of cabs? (help)

I will be travelling to LV this month with friends. We are lucky in that a family member has a house in Vegas so we won't need to stay in a hotel. Now the benefit of this is that we save money not needed lodging, however we're going to need to take cabs "into town" to go out at night.

I'm trying to estimate the cost of cabs. I checked google maps, and where we're staying is about 11 miles (and they estimate 20 mins) from the middle of the strip. Is anyone knows what this trip would cost one way I'd greatly appreciate the input. I realize rates changes with time of day, and traffic is always an issue. But a ballpark estimate would be awesome.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but since you're a little far away, have you ever considered renting a car? It'll save you money than having to cab it everytime.

      http://off2vegas.com/transit.html

      First 1/8th of a mile = $3.20
      Each additional mile = 0.25
Waiting time = $22.00 per hour
McCarran Airport pickup fee = $1.20

11 miles would be about $30 each way.

Two roundtrips each day would rack up $120 - that's more than a hotel room would cost.

Agreed. That's what we did last year, but this year no one is over 25 to rent the car.

Thanks for posting the official rates, I've also heard that in traffic just getting from one end of the strip to the other can be over $50, is this true?

I can see that happening. Just traveling down flamingo ave lets say from HRH to Palms averages $15-20.

I understand the fact that you want to save money and staying at a house will definitely do that for you in vegas, but at the same time I feel that you might be missing out on an essential part of the Vegas experience. If there's a group of you splitting the hotel room, then it won't cost too much.
It's nice to have a base of operations where you can freshen up, recharge your batteries (figuratively and literally), use the pool, and most of all the best part is not worrying about if you'll get back safely after a crazy night.
                Just my 2 cents.

I would tend to agree with above poster and recommend a hotel room. My brother lives about 15 or 20 miles from the strip cabs have run upwards of $40 (only taken a couple times), a hotel would likely be the cheaper route especially with some of the deals going around. Hell even my brother gets a hotel for himself when he wants to go out on the strip. Up to you but I would vote to split a hotel.

I agree, hell with the cost of cabs it may even be cheaper to stay at the hotel.

Hotel room is the way to go. Unless you rent a car, otherwise its not worth it. But then a DUI is never worth it.

True, and LVPD doesn't mess around. Last trip we were lucky we had a companion with us who didn't drink.

Given you can get hotel rooms from $60 a night, it doesn't make much sense to stay that far away.

Especially on holidays. They are seriously out in full force just pulling over people that made bad lane changes to see if they can find anything.

Dude just getting from one hotel to another might be $15 each way so after you add this in it's going to be more hassle free to just get a cheap room. If you want to go super cheap, as in Imperial Palace or Hooters cheap, you can probably get something for under $75 per night.
