  • The fact that you've got 'replica' written down the side of your gun...

I did a quick search, my apologies if this has been brought up in another post.

I will be in town this weekend with 8 other members of team dude for a bachelor party / going away party / boys trip (hotel: Encore), and we are looking to pop a few caps.

I checked out The Gun Store a few years ago with a party of two, and had a blast. There will be between 5 and 9 of us interested in shooting this time around.

    Questions:
    - Should I stick with TGS this coming weekend, or should I switch it up and hit the Las Vegas Gun Range? Or maybe even someplace else?
    - Sunday or Monday (Monday would probably be better for crowds?). This point will be moot if we end up going to the Encore beach party on Monday.
    - Sniper rifles? One guy in the party has a real hard on for shooting a sniper rifle, but I am not sure if either place has them. Can't say I blame them if they don't want large caliber bullets lodged in the back wall.
    - Best/most fun gun you have tried? My last outing I went with the MP5, Desert Eagle .44, and some semi auto rifle straight out of Modern Warfare. Think I liked the rifle the best.

TGS store was awesome when we went, I'd go there again. I shot an M249 which was utterly ridiculous , and my (German) buddy shot an MP40 and a pistol of some description.

Personally I'd save sniper rifles for an outdoor range where you can shoot at stuff 700 yards away, rather than 20. You only get 5 rounds for a sniper rifle IIRC anyway.

I actually ended up going to the LVGR, just to change things up.

      The review:

LVGR was definitely less busy (which makes sense since they are way less advertised, and a little further away from the strip than TGS), so you don't feel rushed at all. The staff is also really nice. But this place really lacks selection. Although they have everything under the sun to buy (including .50 cal Barret sniper rifles), they have a very limited selection of guns to shoot. No large caliber scoped rifles (bolt action or semi auto), no semi-automatic or automatic assault rifles (so no Call of Duty specials -> no AK47s, M16s, SCARs, AUGs, AR-15s, etc.), and definitely no squad assault weapons.

      What they have:
      - quite a few automatic sub machine guns
      - one semi automatic hunting rifle with a scope -> .22 cal ruger
      - a few handguns (of course one option was the Desert Eagle .50 cal)
      - a pump action Benelli SuperNova shotgun (no other varieties, semi-auto, double barrel, etc.)
      - what looked to be an M79 grenade launcher (yes a grenade launcher) - of course you just fire some sort of dummy round that will simply make a large hole in your target, so I didn't find this option very appealing.
      - and that's pretty much it

Since I had tried a sub-machine gun on my last trip to TGS, I was hoping to be able to try the M249 SAW at LVGR. No dice.

But my buddy and I made the best of it, and since he had never shot before, it was all gravy to him. We went with the H&K MP5, the classic M1 Thompson and the Desert Eagle .50.

Definitely fun times, but I'm going with the SAW, and maybe some different assault rifles @ TGS next time I am in Vegas.

If you every get the opportunity to shoot an M240, it's much more controllable and easier to handle than the M249.

Thanks for the info. I am going in a couple weeks and will check out TGS. What should one expect to spend at a place like this? Do you do the packages? 40 rounds from a SAW would go by quick.

It really depends on how trigger happy you are. I believe it's between $30-$40 per gun depending on the type. Pistols might be a bit less, and specialty crazy stuff like SAWs would be more. Personally I would budget between $100 and $200.

Doing a package is probably good assuming you want to shoot those guns.

If you don't go with a package, make sure to look through one of the Vegas guide books you get from the cabs for free. There is usually a $5 off coupon for a sub machine gun rental.

do it! go to the gun store.

they had a sniper riffle that would give most guys a hard on there. The rounds were as big as a screw driver.

When i went i shot 2 guns .. 2 clips each.. and it was about 100 bucks. I know i shot a M16 and something else.

              1) i would go.. screw it.. you don't go often you might as well.
              2) sunday or monday.. monday.. but if you decide to go on sunday go around noon. Theres going to be a lot of people running around on sunday trying to get their costumes ready. Beat the people that are still a bit hung over to the lines by going early. When i went it wasnt a holiday weekend and it went by pretty quick.
              3) I dont remember them having a sniper riffle. The gun store i went to.. there was a neighborhood right behind it. I doubt they can shoot sniper riffles there.. maybe a gun shop thats more remote and away from homes.
              4) M16 is my favorite.. Counter Strike did this to me.
              Vegas is my second home
