  • "Tipping" to get past the lines

Does this always work? I've done it only once to XS, paying off the host/manager/whoever-is-running-the-floor for about $20 a guy to get a small group of 6 in. Still had to pay cover on top.

Are the hosts able to do this as well or do they stick to the tables and guest lists?

Not sure if it always works... but i think any hosts can bring in anyone they want whether free or cover charge... not 100% sure tho but bouncers you kinda have to talk your way into letting you "tip" your way in.

I've done the same thing to bypass the line @ XS. Had to tip the (insert job title here) $20 a person, except we had to pay for our girls as well on top of cover. That was kind of unfortunate but hey, we bypassed the 2mi line @ 11:30.

Kind of a long story, but also a short one hah...another time it was about 12:30 on a Saturday night and my guy friend and I had just left JET and wanted to try our luck and meet friends @ XS so we went and got in the back of the line. A hostess was walking the line finding women to let in and these two girls in front of us weren't chosen for whatever reason each time. We were talking a little bit with said girls and when the hostess passed us again I asked her "why are you letting all of these girls in but skipping these two beautiful women" to which she asked "are you with them?" and I said "no I was just being a gentleman" and she confirmed with the girls that we werent a part of their party and proceeded to let them skip the line. She then asked how many I was with and it was just me and my friend so she let us in too =). Sorry...long post thought it might be interesting.

ive paid in the past to skip lines. i would have rather been inside then waiting. Sometimes you barely move in 30 mins... im not in Vegas so often that id just rather pay to hurry it up a bit.

or you can get there early and maybe get in a bit faster.

I've done it a number of times. I usually give at least 30 per head, plus pay cover.

No one greased a wrong guy, you grease the people who help you. We're not celebrities here. Unless you have a strong relationship with a host, you'll be greasing plus paying cover, which is what happened. Everyone threw in to grease passed the line and nobody expected to pay cover, unfortunately that was a mistake on my part for not explaining that clearly.

Don't expect hosts to roll out the red carpet just because you drop Jack's name.

I've only had to do this at XS, because the line was ridiculously long. It was a fight weekend, so we basically tipped one of the doormen, $30 a person (ladies included) and then paid the $40 (guys) cover.

The $30 was well worth skipping the 2 hour wait, IMO. But the place was overpacked, and you couldn't move at all, so we ended up leaving 5 minutes after we arrived. It was November, and the outside area at XS was freezing cold. No bueno.

I have had hit or miss luck with this, always worked when I have used a host. If you just try randomly you are at the mercy of the line guys... I have been told $100 a head before. If you split up into small groups it always helps.

following mr coltons advice, if i walk up to a doorman and ask how long the wait is for me and my girl, should I tip then? Or ask if a tip will help THEN tip?

If you are not on the guestlist then its worth a try.

you can be frank about it... tell him if $x will let you skip the lines

some bouncer guy took like $200 for a group of 15 guys or so to cut in line behind us at xs this past weekend ...

this is only to skip lines ... you gotta pay cover

A better response would've been, "Hopefully, after I buy these girls a drink."
