If you have an Android phone, you should be able to make free calls and SMS via Google Voice. Skype works too, I believe.

As for the phone's facebook app, I haven't had a problem with my Droid's version.

No it's not skype. It's just a blackberry function that comes with certain phones. But I think it's somewhat exclusive. Only some blackberry phones have wifi capability and even then only certain carriers lets you use that wifi to make phone calls. My tmobile blackberry 8320 works perfectly.

can you use bbm on wifi? I buy a data package when I travel, but perhaps it's not even necessary.

Totally different phone. Droid is a line of phones all in it own put out by different companies. Droid, Droid 2 and Droid X by Motorola. Droid Incredible by HTC. Droid X was never meant as a predecessor to the original Droid. Droid 2 is - the slide out keyboard and such.

I'm interested to hear your long term thoughts on the DroidX, WarreN - my buddies have that, the EVO4G and an HTC Incredible but I'm just kicking around an iPhone4 - would love an excuse to ditch AT&T.

Wrong - the new Motorola Android phone coming out in August is an update to the original Droid phone (hence the name "Droid 2"). It's very different from Droid X in that its display is smaller, no HD recording/HDMI out, smaller megapixel camera, and has a slide out keyboard. Two different phones, bell & whistles-side.

Google Voice. I love GV. It's free. All calls on wi-fi are free. I also use my GV number for whenever I give out my number to someone or a place I dont know. Blocking a number is as simple as 2 clicks.

                        UPDATE:

I've found ways around battery life issues and it hasn't been much of a problem, with a car charger and charging while im at work, there hasnt been MUCH of an issue. It also helps that multiple phones use my same charger, so I've been able to share with friends, etc.

So far I love the phone, so many apps that I actually use, no issues with calls or texts, I've figured out the facebook notification problems as well. My opinion, get the Droid X if you're thinking about it.

HUGE UPDATE: Froyo, for those that aren't in the know, thats the android 2.2 update that includes....FLASH!!!!! HEY OH!

ps, one huge thing that I've noticed, my phone has NEVER crashed.

But, but, but, it doesn't have an "i" in front of its name! It's not the end all, be all of phones! Now where's my plastic band so I can make a call with my left hand?
