  • Free Silver Membership Trial w/ US Airways

I think I mentioned this to a couple people during the Invasion last month - US Airways is again having their 90 trial of their Silver Membership status. I used this last November to Vegas and got free first class upgrade, priority boarding, and best of all: two free checked bags with no limit to weight! That can save $100 right there.

Had no problems with it and just let it expire at the end of 90 days. Note the terms - it's 90 days as of the date you sign up, so time your trial enrollment right [if you're going somewhere in November, sign up in August, etc]. Also, you have to purchase your tickets at the time you sign up, so only do it when you're prepared.

    Found via Slickdeals:

Try Silver Preferred on for size [usairways.com]

Silver status is the lowest preferred tier for US Airways and will allow free upgrades to first class, up to 2 free checked bags, priority check-in and boarding, 25% bonus on miles flown (bonus miles not count towards status), and priority airport screening for those airports that allow it.

If you fly 7500 miles or 10 segments during the promotion period you'll get to keep the status. Additionally (but not confirmed) if this is anything like their normal trial silver flying 15k miles / 20 segments will qualify for Gold status, 22,500 / 30 segments for Platinum, and 30k miles / 40 segments for Chairman.

More details on Silver Status here [usairways.com]

Normally this trial costs $215 if you were to buy it directly from US Airways.

Terms - basically must be general member, purchase a non-refundable ticket, didn't have hold status in 2009 and haven't done any trial or status match for 24 months.

    Legal Mumbojumbo :

No problem - it's a great promotion cause it puts US Airways on par with Southwest in terms of pricing due to the free checked bags
