  • Memorial Day Trip Report

Just wanted to share my experience this past weekend with all of you...

Landed in LAS around 7pm on Friday night. Justin Tuck was on my flight in. Found out as soon as I landed that 2 of the 4 people in my group had missed their flights and that 1 was getting in around 1am and the other the next morning. That put a damper on our plans as we had to cancel dinner at Joel Robuchon. We checked into the Palazzo. Had 2 connecting rooms so each of us would have our own beds. (quick tangent about the rooms...water pressure was awful and the towels are like rocks.) Grabbed a quick dinner at Lavo (food was very salty and generally pretty bad) and got a table at Lavo, as well. We initially got seated in the back by the bar, which is a pretty crappy location but as we bought more bottles, they moved our table a couple times and eventually ended in the owners table on the dance floor. The wait staff was very friendly and we all had a drunken but good time.

Saturday was when the sh*t really hit the fan. The 4th member of our group joined us and we proceeded to Tao Beach. Marklan was great and we promptly got seated at our daybed. I can't say I was really blown away by the venue or the crowd. Decent amount of talent and managed to get a bunch of girl's phone numbers to potentially meet up that night. A lot of booze and drunken tomfoolery later, we went back to the room to stuff our faces with room service and take a nap. Woke up, got ready and proceeded to Surrender, the new ultralounge that is connected to the new nightclub. Let me just say that the new Encore Beach Club venue is unbelievable. That is definitely the place to go for a pool party. Got seated at our table and ridiculousness ensued. We had a very high table minimum so we essentially had a full bar selection for 4 people. At one point, I remember looking at our table filled with at least 15 people, all drinking our booze, and noted that I didn't know anyone there. There really was no way that we could finish all the booze so I really didn't care but it was hilarious to see all these people drinking our booze. At one point some girl had the audacity to ask who I was and why I was drinking from the table! Neyo performed, Paris Hilton strutted her slutty self, Steve Wynn made an entrance and prompt exit and Braylon Edwards was there.

Now, the sun had already started to rise and we proceeded to walk back to the Palazzo. As we were walking, one of my buddies was talking to this girl, all of the sudden her hair got caught in his shirt button and her weave came flying out. The 3 of us (the 4th had left to take down a girl earlier) just stared at each other asking what had happened. The girl turned beet red and managed to say "That is not mine." All three of us were doubled over, crying and almost shat ourselves on the casino floor.

We were denied late check out on Sunday but managed to get ourselves out of bed and to Wolfgang's out by the Venetian pool. Drank a few cocktails, had a few shots, made some obnoxious comments to a few girls then I made it to the airport and on my flight back to NY.

I got back around 10:30pm and the 2 other clowns from NY made it back around midnight. They had proceeded to keep drinking on the flight back so they dragged me out and we went to Tenjune. I nearly puked and passed out while I was there so I promptly made it back home where I did not get out of bed for all day Monday. I have somehow dragged my ass to work today and am seriously considering leaving early...that is so sad considering it's only 8am right now.

Great trip overall and very much considering another trip in 2-3 months. Biggest lesson learned was, don't come out during a holiday weekend.

Sounds like an awesome trip even with the setbacks. Thanks for the write up. I had a question about the Encore Beach Club/Surrender. Does Surrender open up and the pool area turn into an outside venue for the club? Can you enlighten us to how this area transforms? Also what time did you get there? Thanks.

They had Surrender roped off from Encore Beach Club with bouncers separating the 2 areas. If you are in Surrender, you can walk in and out but it's hard to get into Surrender from the beach club. I'm not really sure if that will always be the case and they did that just for opening weekend but either way, you want to be inside. Got there around 11:30 and waited in the bottle service line for an hour before we actually got seated.

        Tao Beach disappointing?

We're heading down next week and had planned to grab a cabana at Tao Beach on the Friday. Sounds like you weren't overly impressed. Was it quiet or just less than you expected it to be? Or both?

I'll be with a big group of idiots so we'll make our own mess, but would be nice to be in the action a bit. It seems unanimous that Friday's best spot is Ditch. We should probably check our options there also.

Tao Beach is a smaller venue and especially with a large group, might feel a little cramped. It was not quiet by any means but after seeing the venue at Encore Beach Club, Tao Beach felt like amateur hour.

that should be expected. you would want the newest venue to be far better than the old ones, otherwise they failed, and people wouldnt be paying a premium for the new venue.

Sounds like a good trip. I like how you ended up at Tenjune lol. That's dedication. I haven't been there yet, but god knows all I wanted was a shower and my bed after I got back.

MDW was pretty crazy. Drove up there for a night from SoCal so didn't really have much time to do much and everything was packed to capacity so didn't really bother trying to get into clubs or anything either.

TAO beach was still cracking sunday morning since our room was directly across from it and had a pretty nice view of the whole area.
