you can go to green dolphin on monday and joes bar on tuesday, or also go stone lotus which starts getting good around 12 am

Angel had some good suggestions there. Monday and Tuesday is tough.

My honest recommendation would be to see if there is a Cubs game that day, and if so, head to Wrigleyville. That's always a good time. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

I've had a lot of fun at Wrigley but it smells like piss and vomit...won't go again.

Wrigleyville is fine but like the others already said, only if there's a Cubs game going on. On other days it's douchebag-central.

If you enjoy live music try Green Mill. It's historic and as soon as you step in, you can feel the oldschool ambience. Cash only (or AmEx) They usually play jazz.
Or try Kingston Mines if you're into blues.

If you want a great view of the city, head on downtown to Signature Lounge. It's a lounge on the 96th floor of John Hancock building. It has a spectacular view at night.

if its good weather, I say the rooftop at the Wit hotel. Really really nice!!

In Chicago there is different place where you can enjoy a lot. I preferred go to green dolphin and joes bar. Because you have short time period. So, you can enjoy a lot in short time at that place.

What's good to do on a Friday afternoon / happy hour? Cubs are on the road the weekend I'm going. Also, what's good on a Saturday night?

it depends what type of music you like to listen if you like house dance music stone lotus is good but its the after spot so you got to get there around 1 am they close at 5 am, and before that you can go to spy bar now friday afternoon if you just want to go get a good beer and good pizza try piece its in bucktown

Thanks for the info. We are hitting Funky Buddah lounge next Friday as my friend's friend personally knows the dj spinning that night. I'll definitely hit the after hours spot that you suggested.

I'm gonna be in Chicago soon, and was looking for some advice.

I'm looking to take the "shotgun approach" - try a bunch of places out, both bars and clubs. Any ideas? Any guestlists I should sign up for? Any good areas? I think I'm staying in the River North area.

I'm pretty much looking for suggestions on a Friday and Saturday night. Thanks!

Lots of good spots on Friday and Saturday. Y Bar, Crescendo, Sound Bar are all in the loop and near each other. These are all clubs though, so if that's not your scene, then I'd go to Wrigleyville or Lincoln Park, where there are a ton of bars near each other.

I know the clubs usually have guestlists through surrealchicago.com and exactevents.com.

On Friday, I like to go to Manor from 10-11, where they have free snow queen vodka hosted bar. Use "Chicago Twenty Something" as the password at the door to get in free. Then I usually go to Sound Bar or Crescendo, both are about 4 blocks from Manor. Good way to get some free booze in before you head to the next bar. If you choose to go to Lincoln Park, my fav spot is "The Apartment." It's a bar called Lions Head Pub downstairs and then a club like place upstairs. No cover ever. Younger, college age crowd. I also like Uncle Fatty's. They often have bands there so check the website.

For Wrigleyville, I like John Barleycorn. And there are a ton of places on the same street so you could easily bar hop around there.
