Tipping etiquette for group of girls

I am throwing a bachelorette party for a friend. We'll be going to Vegas on Memorial weekend. My friend introduced me to a host at XS and he will be getting us (7 girls) into the club for free without waiting in line on Saturday.

My question is: Should we tip the host? We have always gotten into clubs for free without tipping the host or promoter, so this concept is quite new to us. We won't be getting bottle service (as it is way too expensive for us graduate students). However, my other friend suggests that we tip the host. Any advice? Thanks!

I'm sure he's use to getting groups of girls in for free... and never getting a tip. I would say to be nice... have every girl toss in $10... so $70. That shouldn't break the bank... and you are also making your friend who hooked you up with the host... not look bad.

UPDATE: My host is an ASS

I am tipping him NOTHING now. As a matter of fact, I'm kind of frustrated and annoyed at the moment.

I just texted him earlier today confirming the plan and he responded that we would just have to wait in line and pay the $50 cover charge for XS!

I'm not annoyed that we have to wait in line. What I'm irritated about is that he promised me a month ago that he would walk us in and we won't have to wait in line. As a result of relying on his promise, I told my other friend that she does not need to contact her host. I also told another host I was dealing with that I already got "hooked-up." Now, two days before, he told me, quite unapologetically, that there is nothing he can do. His exact words were, "Welcome to wanting to party at the No. 1 nightclub in the world on the busiest Saturday of 2010." As someone who has many years of experience like him, he should have known that Memorial weekend would be busy! This should not come as a surprise to him. Thus, he should NOT have promised me something he could not keep. It's bad business practice to promise and then renegade on your promise without legitimate justification. And "memorial weekend" is not a legitimate and reasonable justification, since he was on notice from the beginning that it would be a crazy weekend.

I get that you are totally frustrated because you told him a month ago, but you have to understand that this is BY FAR the most packed weekned in vegas and that hosts dont know the prices for anything until 2 weeks before. Last year i made 3k on sat night alone off selling tables and girls were $70 at XS. This year they are chraging EVERYONE to get into the club, even local ladies who never pay. I would honestly be happy with the $50 to get into XS if you want to go, they may also change their mind at the last minute depending on how hot you and your girls are. This town is very shallow its all about who you know and how you dress

Hi Justcole! I completely understand what you're saying and I understand how crazy Memorial weekend is. My qualm is the fact that this guy is supposedly one of the "bosses," i.e., big guy, and therefore, should have experience and should know how busy Memorial weekend is. He should have enough foresignt to tell me, a month ago when I asked, "hey, Memorial weekend is busy so I can't help you girls." Had he said that, I would tell him thanks and move on, find another host, make plans elsewhere, etc. The fact of the matter is, he told me, "Memorial weekend is going to be BUSY so I need you girls to come out at whatever time I specify so I can get you girls in." This signals to me that he knew Memorial weekend would be busy, but that he would accommodate us.

But I guess that's Vegas for you (one of the reasons why I don't like the place). We'll be partying at TAO instead since we're going to stay at Palazzo and can get in free as guests.

On a serious note..last year about this time (MDW), I stayed at the Wynn and didn't get any love to Tryst/ Wynn. Imagine your own hotel dissing you. So feel fortunate that Palazzo is going to take care of you girls. Sorry to hear how this turned out.
