Poetry is definitely closed, and they been claiming they were reopening since LAST October....so we'll see. Jet IS good, has a smallish room in the middle that trends towards hip hop (matter of fact that's where my avatar pic was taken). They also mixed just enough in at Tao and Tryst that I wasn't missing it. Caramel Lounge in Bellagio does Top 40s, not too bad. Prive was good, but they're closed now... To get my "real" hip hop in LV I usually try to go when someone good is playing at House of Blues - seen Nas, Jay Electronika, Common, NERD, Talib Kweli & Mos Def.....

+1, I really like the h.o.b. venue in vegas, got to see red and meth perform there last summer while blunted out of my mind...easily one of the best concert experiences of my life.Originally posted by madscientist View PostTo get my "real" hip hop in LV I usually try to go when someone good is playing at House of Blues - seen Nas, Jay Electronika, Common, NERD, Talib Kweli & Mos Def.....
Based on the artists you listed, I'm assuming you listen to Lupe and B.o.B. as well...if so, I recommend you check them out in Houston next week.Chillin's #1 fan

Thanks for the info! Do most of the major clubs (Tryst, Tao, etc.) mix in a little bit? I can do with as much sanity as possible and a little less Britney and fist pumping...
May 20 - 24 will be my and most of my friends' first time in Vegas and we know locally which clubs play what music on what night, but not in Vegas. I know that there's a list of which days to go to what clubs, but there isn't a listing of what music is played (or, if they have multiple rooms and play everything, etc.)...Last edited by NuTz; 04-21-2010, 02:31 AM.

Also strongly prefer hip-hop and Top 40. I've had the most luck at Tryst and Moon. Most of the main clubs seem to play a mix of everything unless its a designated "house music night."
Some ideas:
1. email the hosts of each club and ask what kind of music is played. You'll probably just get a generic answer stating they play "a mix of hip-hop, Top 40, house, and dance music" but its worth a shot.
2. Read some club reviews on yelp.com and that may give you an idea of the music at certain clubs.
3. If you wanna do a little more leg-work find out who DJs at particular clubs each night. Then google or youtube those DJs and get an idea of the music they play.

I know you'd love that but not quite, I'm gonna be in Dallas visiting a friend and going to game 5 while there (assuming my mavs don't sweep the spurs). But I'd researched what else to do in case of a sweep and noticed that Lupe/B.o.B. were playing in Dallas that night and Houston the night before.Originally posted by dnix View Post

yeah i was thinking about going to see Lupe but then its on a freakin Monday and i have two meetings the next day. then i heard erykah badu's gonna be here with ?uestlove, NERD, janelle monae, so may have to check that out. plus i heart me some gaga and she's here in july, plus lilith fair. i actually don't like concerts (i am short) so trying not to overload. but we'll see how though
They do.... Plus Body English was decent, so I imagine Vanity must be too....?Originally posted by royale View PostXS/Tryst has mashup style hip hop all the time
