I need to take a poll

Who here still thinks the "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" or the similar "What happens here stays here" is still working?

I think it is so played and cheesy now. Whenever I hear someone say that I cringe. Then I look for the Ed Hardy shirt.

I need opinions from the younger crowd, because I have a feeling it is just the older people that still say it and/or think it is still cool. They started it back in 2003, isn't it time to move on?

I think it depends on how familiar you are to Vegas itself. The phrase may be played out to people who visit the city on a regular basis, but to those who have yet to visit it, it carries a sort of magical aura to it. Everyone hears about crazy stories in Vegas, and it's reputation remains one that lets people believe that they can let loose and do what they normally wouldn't in Vegas. There is some truth to that, but like I said, once you've left you feel like you've experienced it and the phrase may not apply or hold the magic it once did before.

I personally don't think it has anything to do with age. I think you'll find it's used more often by people who haven't been to Vegas very often, if at all, regardless of age.

I guess I can see it from that angle...not having ever been there yet.

Although, I have seen many a d-bag on a plane going out there chanting it, and it may have skewed my opinion on the phrase.

hahaha, i cringe too when someone says that to me before i go there, or when my co-workers ask me about my trip. someone will say, what happens in vegas, and two other people will chime in, "stays in vegas" and do like a wink and elbow nudge.. well, maybe not that bad/exaagerated.. but yeah, it's corny..

i think the newer phrase is, what happens in vegas, happens in vegas. or ends up in a trip report, or documented on napkinnights.

but i do think there's truth to the original phrase.. a lot of people go to vegas and do something quite out of character.. lots of people there to party/have a good time + excessive drinking = regrettable/out of ordinary event.
most of the time i don't even tell people i'm going cause it makes people assume all levels of debauchery and sin.

Don't have a problem with "What happens" myself. I guess you don't hear it as much here. Most people are a bit "wtf are you going to vegas when I say I'm going..." They just don't understand!
