I agree with both of you, tipping is aboslutely optional. The members are simply suggesting the amount that is reasonable or what they would tip, and I think everyone on the boards are in different financial situations and/or positions and some may be able to tip more and others less. I dont think anyone stated that "$50 person is mandatory" and if a host made me wait or screwed me etc. then it would def directly affect his tip

saying 50 MINIMUM kinda makes it sound like you HAVE TO tip AT LEAST that much... and they make it sound like if you don't tip that much, you're an asshole.

Only thing that stands out to me is him asking for a $500 handshake. Not only is that extremely douchey, but it's also illegal. Bribing people and helping out the biggest guaranteed "tippers?" that's not even a TIP when you ask for it, that's straight out bribery/robbery.

Its private industry private clubs can charge anything they want for their services and the beauty of capitalism is if they charge too much then people wont go there and the business will ultimately fail....bribery robbery? cmon man.

Again, we dont know what the story is behind the tip request is. Im sure it would rub me the wrong way too at which point I would do what OP did find someone else or go elsewhere

direct contradiction! Now if you want to say its against club rules you may have an argument, but good luck with it. the reality is this goes on all over the place and there are alot of people that would be willing to pay the extreme prices and gratuities to get what they want, and if you think its not going on in LA youre naive

I'm talking about turning them away from getting a table and bottle service, not turning them away from getting inside the club. Who stands in line when they have a table and bottle service???? Even if that were the case, I'd rather stand in line if it's gonna save me $500, sheeeiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

Isn't it generally understood that bribery is a part of getting a good table? Asking for a prime table at one of the hottest clubs, it's obviously going to cost a bribe.

I think it's OK if a bouncer says "I'll get you in for $50." but don't think it's OK if a host says "I'll walk you to your table for $500."

but that's just me.

and as far as getting the good table goes; the host walks you to your table, THEN you decide what you tip him... he shouldn't straight out ask for a huge tip before having even met you. i don't think that's cool.

I wanted to ask a question for those of you who have booked a table at XS with frank. I booked a table with frank for 3 bottles for sat night at XS in march, he emailed me right away(very nice) that i was all set and that he would touch base with him the week of. Someone mentioned that he is never at the door at XS? How do i tip him, or do i just tip who ever helps me when i get there? Lastly did i make a mistake not telling him I'm a member of JC.com? I also wanted to know if any of you have dealt with Justen Crews? I booked a table with him for Friday night at Vanity he also seemed very nice.

This was before I was a member of JC.com and was at BE, so I'm not sure how much more that will help or if Vanity has different rules, but in general he set us up with what we wanted, came around and checked on the table throughout the night, and moved us to a better table when we bought a second round of bottles (it was a birthday so we were blowing money). I highly recommend dealing with him.
