Hotel in Los Angeles/drive to Vegas?

Hi guys,

Goin to Vegas on 23 April - 3 May. Decided to fly to LA first and drive from LA to Vegas.

I only have one night in LA, but would like to do some partying anyway. Could someone recommend a restaurant which preferrably transforms into more of a lounge later on and a hotel to go with it...? Any suggestions are welcome.

BTW - Am I just being enormously romantic about the idea of driving to Las Vegas (while it actually sucks to do just that) or is it a good or at least ok idea?

As mentioned, any input is welcome (well almost any).

If you are looking something that is Vegas style with the lush ultra lounges/hotel environment. Stay in ritzy West LA. I personally recommend the W.. but any of these in this list might work:

I have never flown to Vegas we always drive. It only takes us 3 1/2 to get there. But I don't mind the drive. It's kind of a tradition to stop off in Barstow and eat at In N Out. If I can sneak it in I try to stop off at the Coach Outlet in Barstow too.

If you miss it or decide to fly you can hit up In N Out in Vegas. But having In N Out is a must if you are out here.

I used to think this was something that JC members in LA did on the drive to Vegas. But then I read I hope they serve beer in hell by Tucker Max. I've never had one, but they sure do look tasty. When in Barstow, try In-N-Out burger.

Halfway there, in some shit-bag cow town called Barstow, Junior tells me to exit the highway and pull into a place called "In-N-Out." I was not impressed:

"Dude, where are we going? This place looks like shit."

Junior glared at me like I had turned down sex with Penelope Cruz and said nothing. He insisted that we go inside, as he said that one couldn't properly drive and give these burgers the attention necessary at the same time. He ordered me the Double-Double, and looking at it, I was still unimpressed. It's just a fucking hamburger.

I have only fallen in love three times in my life, and the first bite of that Double-Double was one of those times. The crispy bun complimenting the cool lettuce, the special sauce accentuating the fresh tomato, the sweet meat mixing with the salty cheese, all of it coming together in a harmonious medley of flavor thus far unseen on the American fast food landscape--I was smitten. It was the single greatest fast food meal in the history of civilization. Even though I was full, I immediately ate another Double-Double. I was nearly in tears at this meal, it was so transcendently excellent. Those fuckers should hire me as a spokesman.

I keep forgetting to get that book to read. So does this mean we need an In N Out run in Vegas before everyone goes home in May?

Funny thing is in the summer time you can totally tell the difference between the people going to Vegas and the ones going to the river. Sometimes it is so sad to get on the 40 fwy for the river instead of staying on the 15 fwy to Vegas. But I get over it really quickly when we get to the river house on the river.
