As many of the regular forum readers will be aware of, me and 10 others will be heading to Vegas in April and and are staying at the MGM Signature based on 3 to a room, with one room having 2 people in it. The question which I have is do you guys think this is the best place for us to stay bearing in mind this is our first trip to Vegas. Ive spoken to a few people that I know have been and stayed there and they have told me it is about a 10-15 minute walk to the MGM grand main area. I was thinking that for a first time trip maybe we would be better changing to either Caesars Palace, The Venetian, Palazzo, The Wynn or Encore. All the above mentioned hotels are slightly more central located, and I also thought that it would possibly be easier to tip the front desk receptionist for a free room upgrade? All feedback would be much appreciated!
The Signature or not?

The Signatures are beautiful, and you can be pretty centrally located - you're right near Planet Hollywood.
The Venetian and Palazzo are gorgeous as well, but I'm not sure what comparison sq/ft is. Wynn and Encore are gorgeous regardless.
You really can't go wrong with any of the above choices.

Hey Nick,
Marc and I stayed in the Signature over NY. Got nothing against the room at all, it was perfect. It is a bit of a walk though is the only thing. it was 15 minutes from our door to the nearest blackjack table - this in itself is fine, but if you want to walk over to NYNY casino (which is just over the road from the MGM) you are then looking at a 30minute walk.
Wynn/Encore is absolutely spectacular, but you have the issue of being down one end of the strip. Caesars, venetian, palazzo are all by far in much more convenient locations, but then again you are going to get much smaller rooms for your $$$ than you'll get at the signature - especially given you can get signature rooms from VRBO for significantly less than you can through the MGM.
Totally up to you mate, but I personally wouldn't stay at the signature again due to it's location - it get's really f'ing annoying when you have to go on a 30minute round trip because you want a pack of cigarettes!Things I've learned in Vegas:

Exactly what Aria said! What kind of Sig rooms are you getting? the regular room or the 1 bd suite? The suite has an actual living room where you can do a lot in such as host kick ass parties like the UK boys did over NYE.
Palazzo and Wynn/Encore rooms are really nice and decently sized. I'd say for location their better in the sense that Tao, Tryst and XS are all located in those hotel/casinos. Whatever you do will be a solid choice though.................

What other major hotels are the other side of wynn/encore?!Originally posted by nyc2vegas View Postjust for clarification wynn/encore are right next to venetian/palazzo and these places are all mid strip probably best location, but like london said, best bang for your buck will be sig, but wynn/encore is beautiful
I'm not really counting circus circus/stratosphere etc....Things I've learned in Vegas:

well major is kind of subjective, the strip basically runs from stratosphere to mandalay bay and locale wise wynn encore is central, for partying purposes I think its the best place to party as nyny, mgm, mandalay etc have seen better days imo.Originally posted by LondonUK View PostWhat other major hotels are the other side of wynn/encore?!

Entirely fair point! I hadn't really considered that all of the clubs we went to were either in Mirage, Venetian, Bellagio or wynn/encore (Hard rock is off strip anyway so is a cab ride from anywhere)!Originally posted by nyc2vegas View Postwell major is kind of subjective, the strip basically runs from stratosphere to mandalay bay and locale wise wynn encore is central, for partying purposes I think its the best place to party as nyny, mgm, mandalay etc have seen better days imo.
I just remember walking down the strip on our last day and once you pass the wynn/encore there really is very little to keep going for!Things I've learned in Vegas:

yeah as far as walking the strip you def dont want to walk past encore.....its funny when I started going to vegas 11 years ago you really didnt need to walk past caesars. its always changing, now I dont walk past bellagio going south, although next trip i will be forced to, to go to city center....it changes again!Originally posted by LondonUK View PostEntirely fair point! Depends a lot on what type of room you are getting.
Also, if you are trying to tip your way into a two bedroom suite or a much bigger suite when you've already got one it ain't gonna be that easy. For one, there's fewer of those rooms for them to upgrade you into and second, I'd imagine that who is in those rooms and how they got there is monitored much more closely.
I can't imagine going to one of the really nice casinos and counting on using the 20 dollar trick to get myself a bigger room for 10 people!

The only walk you need to be doing is to Wet Republic..which is right outside of the Sigs. Its so worth it

I don't know if this thread has helped me or made me more confused! lol
I know we are not going to get better rooms than the signature, this ultimately comes down to if we want a better location. I will ask the other guys who are coming and see what they want to do! I thought maybe somewhere like Caesars Palace with it being more mid ranged price it might be easier to get a room upgrade, especially with there being 10 of us on a bachelor Party?

3 to a room at the Sigs should be fine... were you looking for a better chance of a sandwich trick upgrade?

Definitely the Venetian or Palazzo.. the rooms are big too. Some people don't like the "scent" at Venetian/Palazzo, but personally, I love it..Originally posted by Nick Cheshire View PostAs many of the regular forum readers will be aware of, me and 10 others will be heading to Vegas in April and and are staying at the MGM Signature based on 3 to a room, with one room having 2 people in it. I think they are better than the Signature because of
location, look, size.
If you plan to ask girls back to the room, Venetian/Palazzo just has more appeal factor than the Signature.. if you cab it back to the entrance of Signature, feels like you're entering some apartment complex or something..
And if you gamble, after sitting at the tables and having several drinks, the last thing I want to do is walk 15 minutes to get to my room. I wanna just take an elevator and be back in my room within 6 minutes..
you'll probably end up parting in Venetian or Wynn anyways, so may as well be close to your bed..
Wynn/Encore is nice, but I think V/P has better value and the sizes of the room are good.
When I think of Signature I think of timeshare condos.. I think the Sig had a kitchen come to think of it, but I doubt you guys plan to do any cooking..
we got an upgrade at the Signature, without doing any tipping.. cause we got ripped off on our rates, so she probably felt sorry for us though, so I'm sure you can get an upgrade there..
i shouldn't diss signature so much. It is definitely nice inside, and it's nice to be in an MGM property cause of pools, etc, but I just don't like how far the walk is to get to the regular MGM.

I live at signature on the weekend and walk to and from MGM all the time to eat and drink, the walk is 3 minutes (maybe) from tower 1 which is the one i live in. The rooms are ok and almost all on the strip side have amazing views. Every room comes with a bed and a pull out couch so you could easily fit 4 people in if they want to share a room.I live in a 1 bedroom sweet so we have the room and master bath + a living room with pull out couch another full bath and a kitchen. You can only valet so if you drive remember that. It is also real close to Planet Hollywood.call it what you wanna call it, Imma fucking ALCOHOLIC
