  • Not Vegas.....New York

    Hey guys (Nyceguy and NYC2VEGAS)

I am heading over to New york on the way over to Vegas in May. Now I have been before with the misses and only went for a drink on a tuesday night in 230 and 5th. A rooftop bar looking over the empire state building and loved it, however I have read that this is a bit of a tourist trap and not the best place to go.

Please could you advise the biggest clubs with the most WOW factor that you can go to in new york as well as some cool vodka / cocktail bars I could go to.

Also how much does bottle service set you back in the big apple compared to vegas ( Tryst / Tao)

    Cheers

    Russ

yeah 230 5th is an ok spot but it is midtown. I always suggest the meatpacking (insert all jokes here) district and soho/tribeca areas, they will be the best for wow factor and cool little lounges. one of my fav spots is plunge at gansevoort hotel. a table there will be a little cheaper than vegas, I think a bottle of goose/belvie runs 350-375 with tip red bulls etc it runs me bout $500-$550, and theres no host tips or fees either. cool pregame spots include tribeca grand hotel which has an awesome bar, maritime hotel has some cool bars as well. this will help show you all good places in the district.

+1 on Maritime...and the Soho area. I also enjoy the lower east side, but you gotta know where to go around there are there are tons of places there. I say stick with Soho and meatpacking district.

I alwasy bring guests to 230 5th for a little bit, just to check out the view and the warm alcoholic cider. Then off to other places.

There are fun places everywhere. +1 on soho and meatpacking

I also like Bleeker street. Ton of bars along that road. Just hope from one to the other.

long story short, its where all the slaughter houses once were and where you could go to buy fresh steak chicken etc...all the warehouses were run down and vacant and it subsequently became bars and restaurants and hotels.

There ARE scattered bars midtown which aren't actually that bad, but you have to KNOW where they are.

I just moved to NY a few months ago from LA. In terms of "vegas style" clubs in the city - you're not going to find many as big and lavish as the ones in Vegas. NYC focuses on smaller, exclusive and trendy lounges.

As far as most exclusive, here are a few suggestions:

                            - Boom Boom Room, Standard Hotel (Meatpacking)
                            - Avenue (Meatpacking)
                            - SL (Simyone Lounge, Meatpacking)
                            - The Eldridge (Lower East Side)
                            - 1OAK (1 of a kind, Meatpacking)
                            - Greenhouse (SoHo)
                            - Tenjune (not super exclusive anymore, but fun - Meatpacking)

                            For bigger, "vegas-esque" clubs:

                            - Mansion (operated by the TAO group, Chelsea)
                            - M2 (Chelsea)
                            - Pink (formerly Pink Elephant)

                            Hope this helps!

Is the Russian lounge Pravda still around? Haven't been there in a couple years, but liked the place... On another note, why isn't this in the off topic forum?
