  • From Germany to Vegas!

    Hey everyone,

me and four friends are planing to go to Vegas in August this year. Because we have never been to Vegas before I have a couple of questions:

    1) Is August a good time to go to Vegas?

    2) We are all in our early 20s. Which hotels are the ones to stay at? I heard the Palms and the Hard Rock are the destination for younger folks. What do you guys think?

    3) I am a little anxious about getting us into a club. Whats the best way to get five guys into the MOON e.g. (maybe without bottle service, we're planing on drinking in the hotel first..)

    4) Will a european drivers license/german id suffice as ID or do we need to bring our passports to the nightclubs?

Btw this is a really great page! Nice reviews and guides!

Id love to get some advice!

    Thanks,

    Tommy

P.S: English is my 2nd language so don't be mean :P

    1) Is August a good time to go to Vegas?

In my experience ANY time is a good time for Vegas. August is my birthday month and it's been a blast every time. It is however fucking hot. So be well prepared. Plus, a lot of students are going back to school so it's the last party of the summer, which generally leads to good times.

If you're planning to stay in the rooms a lot or want to party at the hotel's clubs a lot - pick the spot that best accomodates your needs. If you're partying at the Palms every night, staying at Caesar's Palace would be very silly.

Hard Rock is amazing, Palms is great too. Depending on how much cash you gents want to throw around - the HRH Suites and Palms Place Suites are pretty gorgeous.

Yes, international IDs are fine, but ALWAYS BRING A BACK UP. Passports should be carried along as well.

    Cheers!

The palms clubs are easy for guys to get into, just buy the all access wristbands.

Other clubs will be a combo of either finding girls, arriving early, table service, greasing doormen.

Keep in mind that Palms and Hard Rock Cafe are not on the Strip. So if you want to do some sightseeing or so you will need a car or a cab.

German ID works just fine at the clubs. No need to bring the passport and risk losing it

If you haven't been before surely you would want to stay on the strip? This way in the daytime you have lots of more options! From what I have read in other posts if you want to party in the Palms all you need is the all access wristbands which can be purchased from the gift shop earlier in the day.

              Second this..
It'll be so damn hot in august too, you dont wanna be having to wait for transportation to take you to the strip which you'll probably want to go to most of the time.

I think you should stay at Venetian/Palazzo.. five of you could easily stay in a room at the Venetian, and they have good prices..

The magic convention is every August in LV. It's a fashion convention, not an actual "magic" convention. During the magic convention, there's also some not as big fashion conventions going on at the same (Christian Audigier at Caesar's Palace and the one at the Rio-not sure about 2010 though) so there's a lot of females there for those shows.

I went to the conventions last year, and the cab drivers, vegas people I talked to said it was pretty much dead until the magic convention came into town. (but perhaps they were saying that because it basically takes place during the weekdays)

I haven't had any experience with a german DL. but I think it's enough.. I use a canadian DL and that's considered international, and I have never been asked for a passport except at the airport. I don't like carrying a passport around unnecessarily. it just goes in the safe and stays there the whole trip..

August is a great time to go! Sure, it's hot, but if you're by/in the pool, it's not going to matter much. Plus it's a dry heat

Pool parties are still in full swing and it's still before the big time convention season, so hotel deals should still be found.

Like aria said, Palms/Hard Rock are the two casinos that would best if you're looking for a younger crowd; and between all of you, cab rides won't be much of an issue split down. But if it's your first time in LV, I'd also recommend keeping an eye out for Venetian/Wynn/Mirage hotel deals since they're central and on the strip.

I recommend staying midstrip. Planet Hollywood has a great vibe and a youthful party atmosphere and close enough to walk alot of places. Nearby is Paris that has a free shuttle bus that will take you to Rio area and you can walk to Palms from there. I stayed south strip and all cab rides up to midstrip and to the Palms were between $10-$15USD.
Another FYI there is a free tram running between Monte Carlo, City Center & Bellagio.

The MGM Signature is actually quite a bit of a distance away from the actual MGM. I believe the boys had to use a long walkway and system of tubes and portals to navigate their way to the actual MGM. (Or at least the walkway part, however the Palms Place - literally a skytube.)

The Signatures are actually much closer to Planet Hollywood. So, technically you're much closer to The Strip.

Also, not sure if anyone is interested but here is a great offer from The Signature:

I stayed there before and maybe I'm exaagerating but it seriously felt like ten minutes to walk to the MGM. I think there were a couple towers, and perhaps it was the furthest one, but it felt like we might as well have stayed at the Hard Rock.

Also, they don't have self-park. You can only valet park which really sucked. Not sure if this is true for all the signature towers, but that was annoying.

I might have a bad taste in my mouth about the signature though cause we got totally ripped off on the room rates..

The actual room/suite was quite nice.. and it seemed most of the people staying there were from LA, a lot of hipster types.

I would definitely prefer the Venetian over the signature.

Haven't stayed at Signature, but stayed at MGM and Venetian. I would pick Venetian hands down if I had a choice. When I stayed at MGM I remember seeing a glimmer of some sort on the distance to the northeast. When I inquired I was told it was the Signature towers, but I didn't have the proper binoculars to see it.

That being said, if you're asking if it can be done, you're probably not at the level where you could pull it off.

Aria and Kori are correct. Walking from the MGM to the signature towers was a troop. If you stay in Tower 1, it's not that bad, but towers 2 and 3 are just a long ass fucking walk.
