I hope someone posts soon about Aria. I had to get that out, been cruising their site and am just so impressed with the project. I wonder if anyone told them there was a recession going on?

I know Chappy was there last night so Im sure he will be reporting about it, and they started the project in the midst of the real estate boom and to be honest the outlook isnt pretty for it. They are looking into going public but they are so far underwater that the IPO would be a disaster, you have MGM and Dubai world on their asses and they already were forced to cut the condo prices by 30% and alot of people are just walking from their down payments.....time will tell, I think they will end up breaking it up and selling the pieces off to different buyers, probably losing money in the process.

I believe the project was worth an estimated $14billon when it started, last I heard it was $8.4billon.

I am semi surpised that it completed. Last March they were over $1billon short in funding to complete the project.

I'm sure a lot of people who worked on the project are much smarter than me, but I never thought the idea was a very good one. Just seems like too many rooms to fill in one small area.

believe it or not most of the people making decisions are in the positions because of political clout more than smarts, and the idea really wasnt the best

I was drunk when I posted that last night. I think I was just really excited about the website (did you guys look at the Taipan room at Mandarin?)

But I think that overall, this will be a good thing for the consumer. I agree that in the future this project will be broken up. I think that the glut of rooms will bring down the market (room market) for a while, which will be good for consumers. Rooms elsewhere will be more available.

I also think that this large of a project will dilute some of the spending on the strip, especially with the economy the way it is. By that I mean that companies will second guess major renovations on the strip and this will lead to decay/wear and tear on some of the older properties. (Sahara, etc) With this project using up so much of MGM's money they will want to squeeze their other properties harder (good for the consumer).

Or I'm wrong and MGM will scuttle some of their other properties to force down the amount of beds available.

Either way, this project will be here in 20-30 years and we'll just have to see how it ages. MGM Grand is still pumpin along and its almost 17 years old.

MGM turned 16 today!

The Mandarin Oriental looks amazing to say the least. Aria was pretty from what I saw but the designers definitely don't want you to find your way out. Absolute nightmare trying to navigate out way to and from Aria and Crystals and back to the strip.

A lot of the development is for condos. I think thought that they might be higher. I thought that I read that Trump was going for a cool million; I'd think CC would be higher than Trump.
