  • LOTS of questions about a first trip to Vegas

So I keep hearing from everyone I know how the National Finals Rodeo is invading Vegas right now. How busy will Vegas be this weekend? Does this crowd usually frequent the clubs? Will restaurants be overly crowded? Basically I just want to know if all i am going to see is cowboys all weekend. We didn't realize the rodeo was going on until AFTER we booked otherwise we might not have chosen this weekend.

Also, what is the weather like out there right now? Here in Iowa we are expected to get a blizzard on Wed.....so should I bring a coat? Keep in mind is about 15 degrees right now so mid 50's is going to feel like summer to us

What's the best way to get from the airport to the strip? How much will it cost?

I have already seen KA but my girlfriends want to go to a show, any recommendations?

We are going to try to eat relatively cheap so we can spend a majority of our time drinking. Where are some cheap places to eat?

What is the average price for a beer? shot? mixed drink? champagne? wine? in a club

Is there liquor stores on the strip, if we want to buy pregaming liquor? Also, my stepdad told us to sit down at a slot machine and play a little if we want free drinks. Is this true? or will we just be wasting our time?

    thanks for your help!!!

    1) Yes, there will be a shit-ton of cowboys there. Yes, they will be going to clubs. But this shouldn't affect you as much as you would think. Yes, there will be a bunch of rednecks floating around Vegas but plenty of non rednecks as well. If anything, you'll get a lot more free booze!

    2) It's gonna be cold. I went around this time last year and it actually SNOWED! It may rain, tis the season and all. Be prepared.

    3) A cab, not sure what the fare runs, never landed at McCarren.

    4) Lots of good deals on shows right now. I've heard amazing things about Love.

    5) Earle of Sandwich and Stripburger are good cheap eats that are very tasty. Also, buying snacks at a grocery store or liquor store is also a good idea to help curb appetite between meals.

    6) Average prices are around $7 for beers I believe, not sure about champagne and shots and liquor depending on where are from $8.00 - $14.00

    7) Yes, it works. Pretty easy to do, but not a totally reliable source of getting regularly trashed. ABC stores and plenty of hotel stores sell liquor. Ask to stop by a store on your way from the airport and save yourself the time.

    Hope that helps!

I wouldnt worry about the redneck thing. I have a group of friends that go every year. All cowboys, but not one of them is bringing their cowboy hat. Just stay away from Stoneys or whatever its called now.

A cab to the strip will run around $20, not including a stop to a liquor store.

sitting down at slot machines works fine (worked best for us at caesars and luxor). make sure to tip the waiteress accordingly and she'll come by pretty often.
Everybody should believe in something; I believe I'll have another drink.

-don't worry about cowboys... there's always something going on in vegas. Plenty of normal party people to go around

-don't worry about the cold. It'll be cold to a californian but from Iowa? I guess you can bring a coat for walking the strip and what not, but when going clubbing just leave it in the room cause you won't be outside very long other than to wait for a cab.

-cab from the airport- varies depending on traffic (which can be nonexistant or dead stop). Probably ranges from 15-30. I guess you can be baller and get a limo to pick you up. don't know how much, but hey it's an experience right?

-Cheap food isn't too hard to find. Lots of food courts around. Grab some in n out and some Jack in the box too.

-mixed drinks at a club? For guys, like 15 bucks. For girls? Flirt with guys and they become free lol.

-Liquor stores are around... there's a thread somehere on here with some locations. The place inside gold coast has some cheap liquor. Yes, gambling gets you free booze, great if you're a lightweight and know how to stretch your dollars at the slots/video poker machines, but service can be slow.

I think majority of the cowboy population frequent the downtown area. Most of the southern cali people party over on the south end of the strip where Wynn and MGM are.

What's wrong with cowboys???? Some are cute as hell and most are polite. JMO. Golly Gee mam.

Cheapest way to get to strip is by using a shuttle service available just outside of baggage p/u. instead of a cab. May take longer to get to hotel sincce they make many different stops, but not bad. Find more info here. http://www.mccarran.com/03_Shuttles_01.asp

While in casino's and GAMBELING drinks are free. Be sure to tip waitress well when she brings first drink and order a second one then and there. Because you sure don't want to spend time waiting for drinks to come.

So I take it your going this weekend.... so am I! haha Should be a killer weekend compared to Iowa, no offense but cant really imagine a big night life out there. I know there are a couple others going like Erich. I'll probly only go out Sat since I'll be arriving really late on Friday and I'm staying kinda far from the strip. Sat is open but most likely be hitting one of the bigger clubs like Tryst or XS. I started a thread for people going this weekend, you should check it out!

Im sure the vegas nightlight is much better than Des Moines, Iowa but hey we have fun here too! and believe me we don't spend NEAR the amount of money that we would spend in Vegas......believe me haha I get pissed when I spend over $30.00 a night As of right now we plan on going to Tao on Thurs, Pure on Fri, and Tryst on Sat. Glad to hear there won't be too many cowboys but hey we are from Iowa haha it's not like we don't see them everywhere here either.......I'm just not into the cowboy hat, wrangler look.......The weather will be beautiful compared to here it looks like check out the news........Midwest is getting pounded with an "epic snowstorm" which is what the news is calling it.......hopefully it stops snowing before thursday when we fly out! can't wait.
