Draw in a little more than an hour

I know we have so Brits who will at least humor me on the subject.

Any thoughts on England, are they real contenders or are the just setting up another disappointment.
What teams do you fear getting drawn to

For me the ideal USA draw is South Africa, Algeria, Slovenia

There's a real chance that this will be our best World Cup for a long time, we've finally got a squad who could do it, and have found some form in Qualifying campaign. Will we win it - no. Spain or Brazil will.

Best Draw: Slovenia, Algeria and New Zealand

Worst Draw: France/Portugal, Ivory Coast and the United States
    Things I've learned in Vegas:
Girls from Lake Tahoe are crazy, they are just "not that sort of crazy".....

2 out of 3 perfect matchups for each of us...with the other being our own countries.

Both should get through easily I would hope

I would like to feel sorry for group G but on the other hand, screw em.

            Very, very close.

I'm liking the US chances after this draw. Even England is a good draw - they're very familiar b/c of how popular the EPL is around the world, so we know how guys like Rooney, Walcott, Beckham, Lampard and Gerrard play. We have 6 months to try and devise a strategy to move the ball beyond the England back 4 and somehow try to contain their attacking force. We can't count on keeping a clean sheet against them, so the best would be to make sure we can put in at least 2-3 goals against them.

England may be the real deal, though. They've gotta keep their forward options healthy - Rooney's gotta stay in, and they've gotta make use of all their attacking options. Use the pace of Walcott and Lennon down the wings, and when they get tired, put Beckham in to serve up the long balls to either hit Crouch as a target man or Defoe and Rooney on the long ball.

Group G (Brazil, Portugal, Ivory Coast and North Korea) looks to be the true group of death. I put Brazil and Ivory Coast going through to the next round, while Portugal will not manage a win. I pick North Korea to finish 3rd.

                    "teammate" ... for now.

Becks is doing everything in his power to stay away from the MLS. Back in Milan next month, he'll likely be there through the start of the MLS season (April), and possibly even longer.

The more I look at it, it really is a great draw for US and England

I follow both because I am huge English Soccer fan, but even looking at the round of 16, group D isnt impossible for those matchups all things considered. As well as the A/Bs they could possibly see in the quarters.

Oh he wont be back to MLS at least until after the WC I am sure, I can't imagine him coming back after the Italian club season and missing training with the English team.

Yeah, I'm sure. But LA does have his contract, and who knows what'll happen. For him, keeping up with Milan will be good experience (and lord knows Milan needs it with the meager number of goals they've been able to produce this season), but LA will be looking to get their star back soon.

I hope the US puts a beating on the Brits - so to the Englanders here, but I'm American and second-generation Irish (who's still in the process of getting an Irish passport), so I have to want to see the English club defeated, dejected, and humiliated!

Ouch. I'm guessing you're harboring a latent hate for French people too, huh.
