No you have to have a gmail account to use this. You dont need to use it as your main mail box but you have to have a gamil account to be able to access it.

I still don't get it after reading the wikipedia page. So hows this better then my Outlook Express, IM Program and JackColton forum open in a web browser?

Well I just signed up for it and it put down my hotmail email account as the main email. then I tried adding a gmail account and it did the same thing. Did I do it wrong?

Nah I tried setting up an email thru google... or an account thru them and they made me use my own. I'll try again later

Go to Gmail.com and just try to set up a new e-mail account.
