  • NYC, Keebler, and East Coast Peeps

Im thinking of taking the kids to DW and then up through DC, and NY. It will be a 2 week trip, and we have relatives were going to see at west point.

Hit me back with all the dos and donts for touristy stuff. I havent been anywhere NE before. Ill also be looking for some slopes.

Havent decided if were gonna hit DW on the way there or try and be there for NYE on the way back. What do you think Keeb?

def dont get bottle service with the kids If it were me Id do DW in the beginning before all the schools let out for xmas, when I went school had just started and it was empty, NYE would be a great experience but prices would be to the moon and lines would be insane, and try to stay on the DW property to save yourself a shitload of headaches. I stayed at the grand floridian which is supposed to be top notch but imo it was just ok.

as for NY: are you going to be spending time in the city? or just passing thru heading to west point? as for slopes the best mountain is probably hunter mountain which will be about an hr drive from where youll be in west point.

if youre going to stay in nyc do not stay in times square you will spend 300% more on everything from food to hotel prices and not be able to sleep b/c of the noise.

When you're in DC, you should definitely hit up the Smithsonian. I especially recommend the Natural History Museum, the Air and Space Museum, and the National Zoo. They're fun, educational, and free. But I'm a huge nerd, so take my advice for what it's worth.

Also, if you haven't done it before, you need to go to the Lincoln Memorial and read the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural. It's something every American should do at least once.

NYC - you were right. DW is already 70% booked for NYE. we'd rather short lines than fireworks. good call. we will stay in the city some. we want to explore. Im gonna list all the possible cities well stay, so I can get some feedback.

Barrelo - thats exactly the kind of info Im looking for. When I was a kid my pops took 3mons off in the summer, and we hit every state north and west of TX. I saw Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, all of hwy 1, ect. ect. Im hoping to give my kids similar experiences, before they get hooked on Vegas.

I know you wanted input from east coast people but...When I was doing research on WDW I came across this site http://www.disboards.com/. They are very helpful and they know their stuff. Ok, so some are real freaks about Disney but you can weed through them.
Dear Captain Morgan.....I've seen the pics we need to talk!

I agree with NYC about Disney. Although the NYE stuff they have is very cool, its not worth the headaches if you can go before Christmas. If you go before schools let out you will be golden because it is so much easier to navigate the park and you wont have to wait in as many lines.

I dont remember how old your kids are but if they are old enough for more mature theme parks than Disney than Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure is where its at. Fun rides and a great time, but Disney is the best for younger kids.

NYC is right about the hotel. Stay on the property. You dont have to deal with any part of Orlando and basically you just do everything on site. They have hotels, restaurants, entertainment, everything you can think of right there within walking distance of your hotel, or a short tram ride.

One last thing ill mention, fast passes. Disney and Universal both do these things called fast passes which is essentially a separate line that gets you by the main lines much faster. I know that when you stay on the Universal property hotels you get them for free at the Universal parks, and i think the same holds true for Disney hotels on site. I would check into it. Once i found out about them i vowed i will never go back to a park in Orlando without them. They are very convenient especially if you can get them for free through your hotel. Its almost like when we were walking by all the lines in Vegas on LDW and i was drunk screaming "Sucks to be you standing lines bitches!!!!" except in Orlando im slightly less drunk

How long did you say you have to do this trip? Your not going to be in many of these places very long. If i were you i would pick and choose where you go carefully or else your going to spend more time in the car than you will in any of the places your going to.
