OK, so here goes what I can remember….
I left Long Beach about 7am Friday morning. Couldn’t sleep AT ALL the night before. I was like a kid on Christmas Eve. Drove out by myself, took exactly 4 hours. I didn’t mind the drive at all, I could listen to what I wanted as loud as I wanted and enjoy the quiet time before the madness. I made it there just in time to pick my friends that were coming in from Oregon up at the airport. We headed over to the MGM, dropped off our stuff, and headed out to eat/explore. We grabbed a snack over at the NY/NY and were going to hit the rollercoaster, but they decided $14 was too much for that. (BOOOOO). By then, my other friends from CA were rolling into town. We went back to the room, changed into our bathing suits, and all met up at the lazy river at the MGM. I FINALLY got my ½ yard of fruity boozie smoothie at the pool. It was called a Miami Vice, ½ strawberry daiquiri, ½ pina colada + a shot of 151 on top. YUM!!!!
We head back to the room, and I go to meet my CA friends at some bar downstairs for a little of the Angels game, and more drinking. We decide to grab a super quick bite to eat at the food court and go back to get ready for Tao later that night.
We get to the Venetian and head up to Tao. This was kind of a weird experience for me… I had spoken to a guy named Dan earlier in the week to get us on the guest list. Earlier that day, a guy named Darko called (yes, like Donny Darko…he didn’t think it was as funny as I did) and said he’s our guy, we just find him when we get there. So we go up looking for him. It was a total cluster f#$k. Everyone’s trying to find their host, it’s just a big crowd of people, no line, no nothing. Finally we find him, he hands us his business card, and the guy with us a cheap cover card (I think…) and tells us to go outside and get in the guestlist line. My friend Diana and I proceed to walk to the front of the line (because I’m having no part of standing in line) and are promptly told to get back in line. Ugh. It takes us maybe 20 minutes to get through the line which was better than I expected considering the mass of people.
We get into Tao and it’s a mess. I guess it was free vodka drinks for ladies until 11, and it was 10:45. The bars were slammed with girls pushing their way to the front and guys hogging all the real estate once they got to the bar. I was grouchy to say the least. We finally got drinks, and were walking around. People were stepping all over each other, I actually got shoved aside by some guy that was walking by me. We were getting super closterphobic, and then we spotted the Tao Beach sign. We decided we needed to get the heck outside before we lost our minds. Tao Beach is pretty freaking cool. Ended up in line at the bar in front of that guy Chet from Real World Brooklyn. Thought that was funny. We chatted with random people, and basically just stood around drinking. No one was dancing, the music was almost too slow to dance to. It finally picked up really late, but we were kind of done by then.
Short story long, I’m glad I got to see Tao, but probably won’t be going back again unless we have a table…outside.
