Well I know there is two sides of the story and we will never know the truth. I was not there I just seen it blown up on the news. Did you know they have changed the dress code about 3 times since it has opened ? I understand you need a dress code but it needs to be enforced equally no matter age sex or race. Power and light is the best thing we have here as far as nightlife and they want to keep it like that which is completely understandable. Let me ask you this have you been to west port lately ? That place is all fu*ked up now. Like you say you might not see it but in my shoes I see it everyday.

Yep, tough for me to see from another's shoes I've never been in before shoes. That's why I was careful. I think we agree on most things.

Westport. A shame. I'm getting a little older so I probably wouldn't hang there much anyway. But I still like to eat at McCoy's from time to time and will always love Kelly's, but Westport blows at this point. Shame, but it wasn't a surprise to see it go downhill with the opening of P&L.

Agree, P&L needs to get a dress code and stick to it.

I was there the night that they kicked Jazzy Jeff off stage. It wasn't because he was playing hip hop. That's insane. It was because his management was told that he would have to turn the volume down after a certain time (to understand, Power and light is basically a big courtyard with bars/clubs circling it on two levels and Jeff was playing in the courtyard area). His management refused and became belligerent throwing around the race card.

P&L had a lot of issues early and I do think there was some profiling. But, they've long made the dress code clear and I've never seen somebody in flip flops get in who wasn't in long before they put the security points in at night. Unfortunatley, people are always going to get denied and it gets called racially motivated too often. Sometimes it is, no question. But I don't think it happens all that much.

Kind of surprised by KC2Vegas' comments. I've lived in the greater KC area for almost 20 years now and have never felt any kind of tension. Only time I can remember it being really bad was when Westport had the issues in the late 90's/early 2000's of underrage (and predominately black which seemed to be the issue for bar owners patrons --SMH--) kids hanging out after hours. The brilliant solution, floodlights and blaring country music outside after a certain time. Disgusting.

But, I'm a white guy and having been in a group that doesn't get profiled too much, I can't place myself in somebody else's shoes.

Back to the original topic. I've definitely seen some behavior by guys letting folks into clubs that I thought was racist.

Don't even get me started on the infamous All-Star game weekend in Vegas. I was there. It was bad in areas. But, if it wouldn't have been for the overwhelming "Oh my God, there's lots of dangerous black people on the streets" vibe from way too many people in charge, things would have gone much, much smoother.

As much as I hate to say it, this wouldn't surprise me when it comes to the larger groups like that. Racism, to some degree, plays just as big a part in Vegas nightlife as it does in everyday life.

No doorman is going to ever say "Hmmm, I'm not going to let black people in tonight," but I've definitely seen groups have to wait longer...and even had doormen be dicks to black people in my group by being harder on their dresscode or claiming that they had fake IDs. Which was definitely sucky on their part.

Discrimination is more blatant though. How long do you think a group of older, or overweight people would have to wait in line? And on that note, just to play devil's advocate to the conversation, how likely would you be to go back to a club if it were a little too heavy on the heavies? And, if less likely, does that make you as bad as the doormen?

as an asian i've never had a problem in vegas, but we always grease the bouncer, or have a table hook-up.

but i have been denied in la & orange county & have friends that have been denied, the ol "sorry, we're all full up on asian tonight" line. which really means "asian men".
