Wed 23rd - The Journey
Ad arrived at my house at 4.15am, we'd both only had a few hours sleep from the excitment. Packed the car up and headed to London Heathrow for our 8.15am flight. I asked Ad if he had his passport and drivers license and he said he didn't have his drivers license and would use his passport as ID. I wasn't happy about this but didn't really have time to travel to his house to pick it up. Who goes Vegas without it?!
Got to the airport, checked in, grabbed some breakfast and boarded the plane for the gruelling 10+ hour flight to Housten, then we'd connect to Vegas from there.
Once arriving at Housten we had about 1.5 hours to kill. Went through customs, used the toilet and popped outside so Ad could have a smoke. At that point Ad realised he had left his passport on the shelf in the toilet!!! We ran back in there and it was gone!!! Ad's a mate but I couldn't believe what a retard he had been!!
We spent the next hour searching the airport asking customs, lost property, the airlines, security, the cleaners....fucking everyone to see if it had been handed in, and it hadn't! On top of that as he didn't have his drivers license we didn't have the option of boarding the flight and sorting out an emergency passport while in vegas. Plus our luggage was put straight onto the flight to Vegas and we obviously wasn't going to make the flight now.
I wasn't going to leave him, we spoke to the airline and they said if we can sort it out in time for their last flight of the night which was 9.10pm we could board that plane. By this time it was about 3pm, we spent another half hour searching and asking but was getting no where. At this point I realised the only way was to go to the British Consulate and hope they would help us. It turned out they were a half hour drive away at downtown Housten, so off we went.
At the British Consulate we dealt with a lovely lady that said she would issue an emergency passport to get us on our way even though he didn't have any other photo ID and his photo wasn't on their system! I had to have my passport scanned and sign to confirm he was who he said he was so if there was any problem I would be prosecuted.
We were on a time limit, she told us we needed to go to the Police Department and get a reference number and also get 2 passport photos. We spent the next 1.5 hours running around downtown (which personally I didn't think was a very nice place!) sorting that out. Got back, filled forms and we had the emergency passport to get on our way.
We managed to make the flight and landed in Vegas at about 11pm. We picked our luggage up without a problem. I was so relieved at this point, really didn't think we'd make Vegas the same day after all that aggro.
We were physically and mentally exhausted but decided to take a stroll down the strip and stop off for a beer or 2 before hitting the sack. We walked a way down and stopped off at a bar with an outside terrace and thought that would be a nice place to chill. Security asked for my ID which I produced, then asked Ad for his, he left his passport at the hotel so we couldn't go in. At this point I lost my temper, I walked off 1 way, and Ad the other lol. I had a little walk about, took a few pics, stopped for a beer and headed back to sleep. Ad was alreay there asleep.
An end to an absolute nightmare, but we were in Vegas with 5 full days ahead of us......
