Does anyone else have different categories of friends? For me, I have close circles of friends, that I know will be friends for life. We have all known each other for a long time, have been through a lot together, but now have gone into different paths in life. Some still live close, but some live abroad. Despite that though, we share a family-like trust amongst each other. They are definitely the group of friends that I will go out of my way to help with anything if they needed it.
Then from there, the path of friendship branches off to more superficial things. I have friends that I only party with--these girls (and some guys) are only about clubbing, going to vacation hotspots, and attending trendy events. I could never really discuss with them serious subjects. They are kind of the ditzy Barbie types. They are super fun to be around, but then they also seem to come and go.
From there, I have friends from work. And it's funny, I say friends from work, because sometimes I wonder if I would ever keep in touch with them if I left work tomorrow. Sure, we are constantly in touch--probably more so than other friends. E-mail, phone, IM, text, etc.. they sure like to gossip, we go out for lunch in Fridays, and occasionally even hang out on weekends (usually involves attending an event). But I have a feeling that if I was to quit tomorrow, the whole system would come crashing down and everything will be dimmed down to weekly e-mail forwards funny photos and dirty jokes.
Then I have friends that I see often--sort of casual hang out friends. They live all live kind of close, and it would be fair to say that we are good friends. We go shopping together, goto the gym together, movies, coffees, dinners, etc etc.. and I know some will eventually be moved to the super close trusted friend status, and some not so much (for whatever reasons in life).
Quite the rant, I know... I just thought of this now, because I am taking a few of my super close friends down to Vegas in September, and not the usual clubbing/partying hoochies. They have never been, and I think it will be really fun
I am excited that I will break their Vegas virginities. I probably will not hit the nightlife hard as I would with the usual suspects, but we will probably have a more "wholesome" kind of fun
