Strip Walking Etiquette

Yea, do people that walk the strip have any now days? This is strictly coming from a drivers perspective, so don’t everyone come down on me. I know most of you walk or ride a cab don’t understand the frustrations a driver goes through when they are in a hurry. There is nothing more annoying then being late, trying your hardest to get somewhere and all of a sudden you have to wait an extra 30 seconds to a minute for the stragglers crossing on a red light with no right of way. The only method to get around this is to break up the herd of cattle by blasting your horn and slowly inching your fender towards them. When I don’t do this, I will miss the light completely and at the same time pissing off the half mile traffic that is behind me and waiting to do the same thing.

I know when I walk the strip, I cross when the light shows walk and start running when it begins the countdown. When I know theres no countdown, I start running right when the light turns. I m not sure if it’s a cultural thing or people just don’t give a flying F* about drivers, but it seems like walkers in Vegas have little to no etiquette.

How do you guys handle walking the strip? Do you guys walk slow on purpose when you see someone in a hurry? Drivers, what do you do when someone is in your way?

you should to drinve in manhattan and brooklyn.... can you say nervous breakdown?!!!! I usually am very cognisant of speeding up when the countdown comes on, but I love the people that stand on a street corner when there is no car in sight for miles upon miles and stand staring at the red hand....it really cracks me up!! I feel your pain brotha.

Oh forget about driving in NYC man. Those places either you get driven or you ride the bus lol

Isn't that title sort of an oxymoron? You can't expect drunk tourists from around the world to conform to a standard of movement.

Chicago is bad too, although the people walking the streets are pretty good I just hate the bicycle lanes. Those people take some chances!

Bicyclers are the worst! For some reason they always think they can outride a car and get infront of you in those turn lanes. I m always worried about clipping them when I want to pass them..

I give deference to the drivers when the light changes to yellow and there's on coming traffic. I'm usually good on time, so I don't see the point at risking my life crossing a busy street - especially on LV Blvd where the taxi drivers can be super aggressive. But how about just walking the strip in general (or just walking any sidewalk)? Anyone get annoyed at the stragglers who meander about at a snails pace... And walk in a group that lines from one side to the other that is impenatrable? Maybe it's an East Coast thing, but how people walk around generally PO'S me.

I have to agree with you on the slow walkers taking up the entire sidewalk... you almost gotta purposely hit them as you go around them for them to realize it. Even then though they keep doing it!

A lot of those travelers have a tourist mindset. They think that because they are tourists they won't get hit. That is so far from the truth after seeing what cabbies do. Cabbies aren't afraid to hit me in a car.. a straggler is just a 1000 point target for them.

I remember being in a cab last month in LV and as the cabbie was telling me that LV led the nation in pedestrians getting hit, he almost hit a jaywalker.

haha i remember one year I was talking to the cab driver about it and he ran the red light and almost hit a party bus.

I don't bother driving the strip anymore, unless I'm not in a hurry, I have to or I want to cruise it. The side streets are the way to go. I've found so many cool food and assorted shops doing it that way.
