How does cancellation work? Do you only get charged once you are in? Do they charge a deposit? What happens if you decide to change plans last minute? Would appreciate advice
it all depends on the channel which you are booking your table service through. Noone in my group has ever had to put a deposit down or give cc info to reserve a table. However when it's a holiday weekend, a credit card guarantee maybe required. If you are booking through a 3rd party "vip service" then you'll be charged upfront. If you book directly through the club or with a host employed by the club usually you don't need to apply a deposit. I've always booked through hosts directly or friends that know hosts. If you change your mind at the last minute, then obviously no loss on your part. However you may have an upset host and hopefully you won't need their service in the future as they maybe less inclined to assist you.
Just try to give them the most advanced warning that you can not to piss them off 10 mins before your supposed to be there. Theres usually someone else who will be willing to take the table.

I got news for you if you go directly through a host here they will tell you to be there at 1030, if youre not there you lose the table, no charge or nothing BUT you prob pissed off the host and ruined a hook, they really dont care tho they just give the table away
it's that time again, let's get #28 gentleman....for the boss

And sometimes they give it away even with a reservations when someone else drops a little more change.

Most hosts i have been in contact with have told be to be there by 1030 however my issues is that some of my party wont be getting to vegas till later on that night and the hosts dont seem to be addressing that issue when i raise it with them. Anybody have a similar situation and how did u handle it with the host?

so that means you gotta drop more change then the other guy to take care of them right?
nah not really just: if you make a ressie show up! and show up when told to at 1030 after a few times of this they know your serious and will hold your table if you late in the future.....they wont give your table away at 1030, if youre not there by 1115 1130 theyll give it away, but at 1030 youll be fine they only open at 1030

So in general, what should a Vegas club newbie expect from a tipping policy? I already have the obviously 20% gratuity to the waitress, but haven't really got a good idea about how or what to tip anyone else.
If I'm getting bottles and a table, is it just the host I should tip? What is a standard tip to not look cheap?
Tipping the host is optional, and more about table location, and good service, than anything else. Your tip should be $100-$1000, depending on the size of the group, and how good of a table you want.
Gonna be with 6, gonna do the cheap 100$ bottles (2) at CA Sunday night, then looking at PURE (2) for Tuesday night. Still gotta work out PURE details though.

like dnix said, its all about table location....but for 6 guys id say a min of $150-200 on the low side to the host
