  • longest lurker ever?

hi my name's chris and i have a confession to make. i've lurked these forums on-and-off for close to three years!

my love affair with vegas actually started about five years ago with my bachelor party. thanks to the efforts of a few good friends, it's still regarded as a legendary trip and set the bar that we've continually raised with each annual "reunion" trip.

after a bad experience at ghostbar (tipping the doorman way too much to get into a party that was pretty lame) i decided to get serious about vegas. enter jackcolton.com--without this forum i never would have known how to book a table, tip appropriately, and really do vegas right, so thanks to all.
crap out, cash out, pass out

i still smell like smoke, strippers, and shame

last night i swallowed liquor and a lighter
and this morning i threw up fire

haha i'll see what i can do--since the beginning we've instituted a no-phones no-cameras policy so no physical evidence exists. here's what i remember of the bachelor party, mid-july 2005:

i knew my best man and another good friend were planning a party for me, they told me what weekend to keep open but no other details. that morning when they picked me up all they said was "dude, we're going to vegas" and i still remember the feeling of excitement/anticipation. i had been to vegas once or twice before, but i knew that this trip would be different.

we drove from LA to vegas in what was probably 110 degree heat and i remember the a/c could barely keep up. we checked into the bellagio and one of the guys said "how much is a suite?" we ended up with a standard room and a bellagio suite. to put things into context, we were 23, recent college grads (some still in school), and even the standard room was probably breaking the bank for us. still, for this trip it was clear that nobody was worried about the budget, so you can imagine our awe and wonderment when we went up the secure elevator and walked into a 1020 sq ft party suite with 3 bathrooms, steam shower, jacuzzi tub, and 4 tvs.

the drinking started right after that, and my memory gets a little hazy. i remember i bought the guys dinner at sensi since they made it clear they weren't letting me pay for anything else that trip. don't remember what we all ate but there was a short ribs dish braised in curry sauce and served with roti bread that definitely sticks out in my mind. to this day, i haven't had anything like it.

went to a strip club, don't remember which one or much about it, but i remember it was fun. when we got back to the hotel we realized we had left a man behind! we thought he would be pissed off that we lost him, but when he arrived in a separate cab 30 mins later he was all smiles. he explained that it was taking too long to find a cab to take us home, so he wandered back inside while we were waiting! we saw james woods getting into a cab with what were most likely two prosties. he gave a sort of knowing, creepy smile-and-nod as he closed the door. talk about random!

i lost a lot of money at the tables, realized i'm probably the worst blackjack player in the world, but refused to stop playing. lost another guy, found him hours later chatting up the elevator operator/security guard and waiting for us to come back with the key. he had been waiting there alone for probably two hours and seemed to be having the time of his life! we went to pure which i wasn't all that excited about initially (i'm usually much more of a dive bar guy than a big club guy). they explained to me clubbing was non-negotiable and pure was probably THE top club at the time. waited in line for about 30 mins before a friend decided to tip the bouncer and get all 10-12 of us in. i have no idea what he paid the guy, previous to that i had no idea that tipping the doorman was even possible! had a truly mind-blowing time there. one friend was so trashed and feeling the music he gathered all of us around and yelled out "who cares about girls tonight? fuck girls! i just wanna DANCE man!" and he proceeded to do so the entire night, inventing no less than four or five signature dance moves--two of which we still remember. we give him shit about it to this day and use his quote "i just wanna DANCE man" on a regular basis. my brother and i cut out early (maybe 3AM) and had probably the best tuna melt ever at the cafe at harrahs--to our disappointment it's no longer there.

our suite was a mess--just littered with cigarette butts, cigar ash, spilled whiskey, dirty clothes, people passed out in corners, and who knows what else. we made it worthwhile for the cleaning crew though (on accident!), one of the dudes decided to order 24 hours of porn, and threw down the cash on the coffee table to pay for it. nobody ever remembered to pick it up, and we figured out much later the maids must have understood it to be a tip. at some point i made some grand speech that all the guys remember, but i have zero recollection of. i'm sure it was something along the lines of what great friends they are and i'm the luckiest guy in the world. nobody remembers exactly what was said but they tell me it brought almost everyone to tears.

sunday we woke up figuring we'd had all the fun that could possibly be had. we'd hit the champagne buffet, rest/sober up, and head home. maybe the best part of the trip was that we were oh so wrong. i remember the waitress at the buffet HATED us, but for some reason still kept leaving bottle after bottle of champagne even after the buffet had closed. we stopped in a brewpub type place (at monte carlo maybe?) and somebody said the words "bachelor party" to two old dudes. before i even knew what was happening they had me laid out on the table guzzling beer from the tap. we left there figuring there's no way it could get any better--headed to the forum shops because one guy needed to buy an apology gift for his then-gf (possibly due to the no-phone policy all weekend). while there, another friend (not a small guy, maybe 250 lbs) was body-slammed to the pavement for no reason by a guy wearing a pink feather boa. we all stood there stunned asking ourselves "did that just happen?" but the two guys got up laughing, and hugged it out like they were old friends. the guy bought us all jager bombs and we hung out with him and his wife the rest of the day. we sat out in the heat drinking some slushy frozen lemonade vodka thing and reveled in the glory that is vegas. watched the sun go down, drove home, and slept for about two days. what a trip--i guess i remember more than i thought!
