  • Sapphire Pool Closed

    Story at ReviewJournal:

The Rio on Tuesday decided to indefinitely close its adult-themed Sapphire Pool after it failed an "integrity check" by Las Vegas police, the property's owner confirmed late Tuesday.

Harrah's Entertainment, which owns the Rio, asks the police to conduct periodic integrity checks on its nightclubs, pools and other amenities to make sure they are operating within the law.

The company would not discuss what was found.

The voluntary pool closing, which featured topless dancers from the Sapphire Gentlemen's Club, comes as Nevada gaming regulators are taking a closer look at the amenities that operate at businesses in casinos.

Gaming Control Board member Randall Sayre issued a letter in April saying regulators were taking a closer look at nightclubs, ultralounges and European pools where licensees might be found to "be indifferent to the conduct or welfare of patrons."
Told ya Prive wouldn't be the last, though it's not hard to imagine Sapphire Pool would be a target.

what the F is going on??? I think they should hold church vigils in the casinos rather than allow gambling......I love how the gaming commission (which exists purely because of the vice of gambling) is the entity which is calling the shots on the "activities"
it's that time again, let's get #28 gentleman....for the boss

Everything is going to be scrutinized now but it'll die down. Times are tough so they need the $$$$ from the fines. I don't think they'll allow it to go so far as to hurt tourism.

Seems like every year (usually around July) there is some big crackdown effort, this just seems to be the most they've actually done about it. Two summers ago most of the nightclubs brought in their staff members for mandatory drug compliance meetings because "metro had vowed to shut down a major nightclub by the end of the summer." I think it was the year before that there was a proposed bill to outlaw bottle service because of excessive drinking. Then, of course, there was the Pure Management IRS raid of Feb 2008 that got everyone focused on tip compliance for the rest of the year.

If 2009 is the 'Summer of Prostitution' (which sounds like an event, order your tickets today!), I can't believe Mandalay Bay isn't in the news - its pretty blatant there. I was there one time when a hooker and the "john" were discussing package deals openly in a crowded elevator.

Summer of Prostitution? This is perfect! I told my friend that I was selling her butt while we're out there to pay our bar tab. We've got perfect timing.
