  • The end of nightclubs?

I just came across this piece in the LA Times, and I thought I'd post it here for the purposes of starting a discussion:

    http://vegasblog.latimes.com/vegas/2...d-of-heat.html

Just to be clear, I'm not saying I agree or disagree with this. I just want to see what everyone thinks.
The only winning move is not to play.

I disagree, as long as there's money to be made, the clubs will be in business. Vegas is not just competing with Miami, LA, and NYC. They have to compete with major destinations worldwide. Gambling, luxory hotels, and large production shows are nice but you need to have entertainment that the clubs provide. Yeah they get a little out of control but that party atmosphere keeps people coming back. Nightclubs will only get bigger and better.

for one I completely disagree with PH being fined. that was completely about money. there was a lease agreement and prive was a tenant.

As far as nightclubs disappearing, thats about as absurd, as the articles reasons. First, what nightclub doesnt have underage customers, and cuts off customers when theyve had enough. Vegas isnt special in those areas, there just on a larger scale. Prive isnt the first nightclub in the US to lose its liquor license. As far as celebrity appearance pay cuts. Who isnt making cutbacks? Were in a recession. and Id bet that paying for celebrity appearances was more about "club impression" than actually getting a big return from it.

Nightclubs could evolve into something new, like they did when bottle service was created, but disappear? Never. There will always be a place to dance.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of this in the next couple weeks. I don't think the fines that Planet Hollywood had to pay for their tenants actions were unjustified .However I find it kind of unusual that they're the ones paying and not the tenant. I'd like to see the lease terms that the Opium Group has with Planet Hollywood. I just think now the casinos wont be able to turn a blind eye to the activity that is going to in the nightclub locations. But without knowing how much money these leased clubs really bring to the casino it's hard to tell what they have to lose.

this appears to be a clear case of get even tactics, something is very strange with the whole thing and I bet this is the last we hear of this. I think it was purely about money, and Im willing to bet you that they will never touch tryst or xs cause steve wynn is just wayyyy to powerful in that town.
it's that time again, let's get #28 gentleman....for the boss

Seems like a money-grab by the gaming commission to plug holes on the financials... Though, by doing so, they could be bleeding their biggest earners. I doubt this is the last fine we see - considering how vague the chargers were, the gaming commission could charge any casino with a popular nightclub.

that and/or PH was not playing the game!! by that I mean if they werent agreeing to kick back some funds to the GC then they might have to be forced to if you know what I mean

Las Vegas nightclubs have hit a status of legendary folklore. They have amongst the best Djs in the world to spin their finest vinyl. Don't let one article taint you on what you think is going to happen....because one pea has rotted....will the whole pod go bust?
